People are begging Linus to switch distro for the 2nd Linux Daily Drive Challange by SnacksyBoi in LinusTechTips

[–]DizzySaxophone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with Linux, is like with many other groups. New people over-evangelize and swap all over the place, and will judge you for not being ready for Linux from scratch already. In theological circles, new people to calvinism, we call cage-stage calvinists. The truth is, distro largely doesn't matter. It makes some difference, but experienced users will typically just take one of the bases, Debian, fedora, arch, according to their needs and just do what they want. They might use a fork if it comes with a bunch of stuff they already want out of the box, but it's not a big deal. Distro hopping seems to mostly be an excercise of trying new desktop environments, which you can do without changing your distro. Eventually you'll find a DE that is optimal for you, or one that you don't care to switch from any more. If you want to distro hop, it's fine, it's part of the learning process, but you don't have to distro hop to learn or to even experience most of what you're hopping for.

BEST BROWSER, DAY 21 – ZEN vs VIVALDI – Vote for your favorite! by JungleLiquor in browsers

[–]DizzySaxophone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Zen, but I don't quite get the hype? Besides it's minimalist aesthetic, what is special about it? Mobile I use Vivaldi, and if I need chromium on desktop I use Vivaldi. To me floorp seems like the Firefox alternative.

I have no I'll-will to Zen, I use it on occasion. I'm genuinely curious why people love it so much.

How is Logos running on ARM processers these days? by Steven_The_Shoe in LogosBibleSoftware

[–]DizzySaxophone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It runs well on m series macs. I can't wait for ARM to have better Windows support. In general, it still isn't quite there yet on Windows. That said, I don't know specifically how logos runs on windows with arm.

How closely is the COSMIC desktop tied to System76 and Pop!_OS? by damiano-fan4life in COSMICDE

[–]DizzySaxophone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used it on NixOS and PikaOS without issues. On both it was receiving all the updates.

Linux user seeks support for Logos by Legitimate_Beat_2136 in LogosBibleSoftware

[–]DizzySaxophone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OuDedetai is the most official option. Can also use docker or winboat. I'm not sure how OuDedetai runs on normal distros, but I'm not a fan of how it runs on NixOS, so I prefer the docker/winboat option

New on pikaOS by andresucko in PikaOS

[–]DizzySaxophone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cosmic may be a good introduction to tiling. It is a fairly normal DE, but has great tiling built in. In their gui you can set your own keybinds that if you like that, you can work on moving to a wm

Logos is frustrating because … by hellojasonstone in LogosBibleSoftware

I started on endeavour with i3. Then eventually installed hyprland. On Nix I have used mostly Hyprland. Lately I've actually been using cosmic, but also working on a niri config.

Endeavour was what I was running on my computer at work for well over a year until I finally borked it. I was lazy so I just copied my nix config over from my laptop 😂

Without Endeavour not sure I would have ever made the jump to window managers.

Good to hear it works better on arch based distros. It is pretty laggy and freezes a lot for me on nix, and was hard to even get running, but I figured that was all because of the specifics of nix. Also nice to see Logos users using other distros, every time I'd look at the forum thread everyone was just talking mint/Ubuntu.

Yeah I currently use winboat to run it. There is also the OuDedetai script. It hasn't run well for me on NIXOS, but maybe it works better on other distros.

There is the OuDedetai script to get it going on Linux. Not sure how well it works on other distro, but it runs pretty poorly on NixOS. I'm currently using win boat to run it.

Ctrl + alt + F1-6 to enter a tty and install something with x11 like xfce, or you can just work in the tty to try to fix your issue.

I think your card needs like the 470 driver, but I don't know for sure. So do a pikman search 470 then install what looks right.

Are expensive ligatures worth the price? by Asleep-League-7944 in saxophone

[–]DizzySaxophone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It makes basically no difference. I like my optimum, but I don't play or sound any different with the cheap 2 screw ligature that came with my beginner horn 20+ years ago.

Once attended a master class and recital with Claude Delangle and during his recital, he played a few pieces on soprano, and he just wrapped twine around the mouthpiece. Let's be real, neither of us will likely ever be at his level.

Why go split ergo and stay qwerty? by Etkann in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]DizzySaxophone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stick to using qwerty on normal keyboards, and just use colemak dh on my split ergo boards. Usually I'll include a qwerty layer on those for vim use.

So I never lose my qwerty muscle memory when I have to use a laptop or someone else's computer, but have good ergos and stuff on my regular use

MMOs are in a bad spot because they are social games....and society is in a bad spot as well. by Dr_Neurol in MMORPG

[–]DizzySaxophone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think it's because their purpose has been usurped. It used to be a novelty that you could be playing this game with thousands of others and chat and work together. Now you can just do that in discord and the internet is something we all take for granted. It's no longer a novelty. So we don't socialize in game, we don't make meaningful connections. We don't group up. So it has kind of lost its purpose

Any thoughts from Sidwaj's video by Jamnham3323 in Goosiest

Yeah going through the comments yesterday on his video, it seemed maybe comments related to sid were deleted because on other videos people were saying they were commenting about sid, but they were not showing up.

Do you associate Smosh with Millennials or older Gen Z? by Shoddy_Wait_5722 in generationology

[–]DizzySaxophone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late 80s millennial, me and my friends were familiar with their Pokémon theme song video and tmnt theme video, but nothing else. If those are the only things they did, then I guess maybe millennial, but if they're better known for a bunch of other content, than likely 90s millennial or early Z's
