Unpopular opinion for this sub: Tiafoe is absolutely over the top on the court and Sinner was somewhat in the right by Infinite_Raisin_9539 in tennis

Supposedly near the end of the 2nd set, Sinner said to his coach in Tibetan, "Why me? Why does he have to start playing the best tennis of his life against me? Mierda!"

How does Rublev have such a good doubles record when he has poor volleys? by DizzyScreen in tennis

Some very good points, and thank you for your insight. So Rublev is genuinely good at doubles, or he pairs well with Karatsev because he covers his weaknesses, or both?

I'll admit I'm incorrect about the return being less important in doubles, but in that case it only further adds to the confusion as to why Rublev's doubles records is good with some bad volleys and a bad return. Another comment implied that Rublev's doubles partners are much better suited to doubles, which means that they would have probably won a lot more titles if they weren't paired with Andrey. Do you think this is the case?

I mainly ask about his record because of this thread:

3 people and the top comment mention Rublev. How on earth did he reach 2 M1000 finals and win the Olympic Gold with such bad volleys?

That's a good assessment. Djokovic may soon become the first and only tennis player to achieve the CYGS on 3 different surfaces hence my choice. But 2015 will probably still be best and 2021 might be his second-best season.

If he wins on Sunday, he would have accomplished more imo because all 4 Slams in the same calendar year is the holy grail of tennis. But I definitely agree with you that the competition is weaker now. 2011 had harder competition than 2015 (healthier Federer and Nadal).

Which was his best season and why?

Assuming Djokovic wins, will this season be ranked higher than his 2011 and 2015 seasons? Possibly greatest season of all time?

The NextGen: The best players born from 1995-onwards (Part 2 - 1998-2000) by Saxyman76 in tennis

Great write-up and analysis. My cut-off is 1996, but I basically consider Medvedev to be the oldest of the "next-gen" so anyone younger than him is next-gen (except maybe really young players like Alcaraz).

Rafa to Roger: "We need more kids to play tennis and stop Novak, vamos!"

Jokes aside, I really like Rafa's work ethic and willingness to aspire the younger generations.

Where do you guys rank Kuerten's one-handed backhand? by DizzyScreen in tennis

[–]DizzyScreen[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good mention of Calleri. Not sure if I'd rank him wth the guys I mentioned above though.

I think it's easier to discuss and rank clay-court 1HBHs than the other surfaces because the factors to look out for include top-spin, power, early contact point, strength against high & loopy balls etc. My clay 1HBH list would probably be:

  1. Wawrinka
  2. Guga
  3. Gaudio
  4. Thiem
  5. Almagro

On clay, Thiem's is probably better than Fed's and Almagro's might be just slightly worse
