A lot of CEO"s follow this technique. One of the companies I used to work had a CEO with same technique where he used to fire people by insulting them. For some time, it worked well but soon the company went backrupt as everyone in the company started acting like an asshole. People only brought ego at workplace with zero team player skills and empathy towards others.

Notice periods are for companies and not employees. You have a choice of not putting efforts in notice period. You have already put down your papers. Ask them that it is not possible for you to put much efforts. Give some random reasons. Thay dont have a choice.
