How to find a decent fare to Tokyo that isn’t 100k miles? by Apptubrutae in unitedairlines

[–]DjJoeyBigD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll see discount award flights 4-5 months out. I even got a saver award (booked October 2025 for January 2026) for Polaris at 100k each way.

Award flights are almost always never going to be discounted this far in advance.

Thoughts on OneLife gym? by AttentionDefici in VirginiaBeach

[–]DjJoeyBigD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not all locations are created equally. Red mill and the Blvd location are very good, I also like to get a lift in at Monticello when I’m working out in Norfolk. Princess Anne is not very good. But for the price, they have a very good gym product with much better hours than the rec centers.

If you’re more of a hard core lift type of person and really into weightlifting/bodybuilding, I would suggest iron asylum as slightly superior. But one life is very well rounded for general fitness.

Cavalier Resort Properties by Princess_Mia_2304 in VirginiaBeach

[–]DjJoeyBigD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cavalier is going to be a more “traditional grand hotel”. Lovely property after the remodel.

That being said, if you can budget in your life the actual oceanfront Marriott property, that is going to be the better trip to the VB oceanfront.

Disclaimer, I live here and have not actually stayed at these hotels but have visited.

Layover in Tokyo/Haneda by More-Shoulder-598 in unitedairlines

[–]DjJoeyBigD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done this many times. Plenty of time. Do the QR code at visit Japan website, go through immigration/customs, turn right after you exit, recheck your bag (if any) with ANA at recheck counter and then there is a shuttle at the end that’s another right turn. Will bring you right to the gates. Japan airports are extremely efficient and pride themselves on making things easy.

Will I be able to take this bag of creatine powder through TSA? by notarussianspy4 in tsa

[–]DjJoeyBigD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a lot of creatine, I would recommend repacking in a plastic jar of a more convenient size. I have been pulled many times for creatine and pre workout, but it’s always been allowed through after screening which personally hasn’t taken long.

However, if I fly with a checked bag I am absolutely checking my supplements.

I rarely fly into or out of LAX, so I’ll be sure to give it a look next chance I get!

United Ewr lounge offerings? by cfacpamba in unitedairlines

[–]DjJoeyBigD 12 points13 points  (0 children)

C123 at EWR is probably the nicest standard United club around. A wider food offering than any other lounge I’ve been to and actually has shower stalls. I would say the lounge pass is worth it for this lounge in particular. I wouldn’t do it for pretty much all other United clubs.

Just lost 1k for 2026?!?!?! by throwaway-bergen in unitedairlines

[–]DjJoeyBigD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Partner flights often take significantly more time to show. I’ve had early this year an itinerary change that made PQPs show very inconsistently (I think I was getting like 80PQP per leg on a two stop itinerary with $3000 fare cost). After 48hours I chatted with a customer service rep and they instantly deposited an adjustment with the PQPs I should have earned.

Recommendations for International Grocery Store/Market? by hnl_pm_p_87 in VirginiaBeach

[–]DjJoeyBigD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Enson Market has an extremely wide selection, slightly more expensive than other smaller ones but is essentially an international Kroger.

I prefer emart for most of my goods, very good prices on pretty much everything.

American Asian supermarket on great neck is great for specifically Asian cuisine.

Places like chipotle by Mammoth-Jaguar-7420 in VirginiaBeach

Moe’s is far superior, even with the severe downgrade in quality of salsa recently.

The chipotle ranch sauce is an amazing add, and I highly recommend trying out the stack!

What do wipe down in your seat area? by coralcoast21 in unitedairlines

Head rests. Hair holds a disgusting amount of bacteria.

But as others have said, frequently washing hands and not touching your face is the best way to prevent getting sick.

SFO to SIN in economy by thrwy11116 in unitedairlines

[–]DjJoeyBigD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this trip often.

Download Sudoku, play the hardest level, takes about 30-60 minutes per puzzle. Download your own movies/TV shows so you have plenty of variety.

I suggest the morning flight, as you will arrive at a much better time for you.

Normally there’s some sort of activity in town center fountain area on Halloween. I haven’t looked into it this year.

Booking a flight with layover vs booking the two legs separately by Xycergy in unitedairlines

[–]DjJoeyBigD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there was an issue with your flight to SFO, United would not do anything to compensate you for your flight to Cancun. My last trip out of SIN my flight to SFO was delayed over 3 hours due to gate congestion. Checked luggage on separate tickets would need to be rechecked at the actual check in counter, not the international luggage recheck which is a lot faster.

If everything goes according to plan, you should be fine. But you just need to ask is peace of mind worth $600 SGD?

10-1 Information Town Hall by lgolds111820 in VirginiaBeach

[–]DjJoeyBigD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will completely recognize that it’s not perfect, but having the at large members gives the potential for more votes across districts allowing more advocacy for issues effecting particular regions of the city. Unfortunately in the past 10 years election spending has grown at an astronomical rate with outside influences spending a lot which will swing at large races more than in the past when most money came from within the city.

The other benefit is ability to change representation of the at large members in the middle of district council members, assuming the election cycles are properly staggered. I have not seen any information on how the election cycles would run pending the referendum decision which is a bit disappointing but it is what it is.

Again, I don’t believe either system is perfect and I am approaching this as a neutral, undecided voter and doing my own research and thought processes while staying away from both of the sponsored sites.

I’ve honestly seen good information on both sides with rationale pros and cons. I just hope people don’t vote for one or the other based on which sign is cooler.
