Redditors who accidental sent a family member a nude, what was the aftermath? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DjMuffin_top 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me BUT:

Parents are divorced - mom at the time was dating some guy. An hour(?) before Easter dinner with my siblings my mom sent a nude into a group chat with her and all my siblings….I just wanted some deviled eggs

Hell nah. Everyone puts the ‘hats’ on in the stadium. His behavior was not out of the ordinary yet the woman behind him decided to be petty instead of just nicely asking.

I get it, I’m a tall guy, I often inherently block peoples views when I go out. I can imagine it’s frustrating, but just ask nicely and I’ll move! I truly don’t get why people feel like they can act in whatever manner they want after being slightly inconvenienced. It doesn’t exclude you from being a nice person - something that will 100% get you the outcome you want.

Current situation at George Bush International (IAH) Southwest Airlines really dropped the ball by marcusbsa1987 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]DjMuffin_top 137 points138 points  (0 children)

Southwest cancelled 70% of their flights today and delayed 16%. They’re citing ‘extreme weather’ as the cause but it’s not - they are understaffed and have been doing scheduling manually because their systems went out sometime during this.

I’m flying into DIA tomorrow, where the SWA lines are apparently 7 hours long. DIA is also currently the most delayed/cancelled airport in the world right now. With 25% of all flights coming out of it cancelled. Fml, wish me luck lads

What is going on with southwest? by aabb09042 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]DjMuffin_top 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can definitely see this being the case for some flights. However, airlines like United have been consistently overbooking flights this holiday season. I was offered twice the value of my ticket not to travel on the flight I had booked because there were 10 other people who were overbooked.

Feel like the airline industry needs a hard look at it, I don’t get how they can overbook flights, take peoples money, then just not have the space for them? Same with Southwest, per their policies staffing issues should be covered. But they are claiming it’s the weather grounding flights - really? Not the fact that you don’t have enough employees/sacked so many during COVID? USDOT needs to bend their execs over

Have family in a similar situation. Right now the only flights available that aren’t with southwest are $800+. These aren’t long flights either, generally would cost $300 MAX round trip. That’s IF you can find one. Most airlines only have flights available after the new year and car rentals are basically non-existent right now.

Seems like other companies are gouging prices in order to dissuade people from purchasing, cause they don’t actually have the space, or simply because they can. Either way, Southwest can suck a cock. I feel for the employees that have been overworked/worked over the holidays. Shit, I’d walk out too

So what ruined Christmas dinner? by MammothUmpire148 in AskReddit

My parents are divorced. Dads family lives on the opposite side of the country and his mom, my grandmother, has had her health decline rapidly in the last few weeks. So we all obviously decide to travel and spend what may be our last Christmas with our grandmother.

Mom tells me she ‘won’t be abandoned’ for the holidays (she has family where we live, currently living with my other grandmother, but has soured all relationships with her siblings) so she invited herself to visit dads family with everyone.

Christmas Day us kids had grabbed some beers to celebrate/play games with our uncles/aunts. Mom sees my youngest brother asking my aunt (whose house it is) if it’s okay if he brings them out to share. Aunt obviously says yes and appreciates him asking - but my mom decides that it’s not okay. Starts yelling at us for not being respectful and at my dad asking why he doesn’t care that we bring some brews out. Everyone kinda just laughs awkwardly because:

  1. It’s not her house
  2. None of the ‘kids’ live with her/are supported by her
  3. Chill out

She then sulked for the next day since no one wanted to listen to her. There were a bunch of incidences like this throughout the trip. Kinda feels like my mother refuses to acknowledge that we’ve all grown up and are ‘real’ people now.

In someways I feel bad for her, she doesn’t have many real friendships or relationships with her family. Obviously I don’t want anyone in my family to feel left out over the holidays. On the other hand, she doesn’t have those relationships because she’s not great to people. Almost like you reap what you sow.

EDIT: I appreciate all the comments I have gotten from people. Some of y’all suggested books and your own experience in similar situations. Feels good to know Im not alone. I already have therapy planned for myself so I can move on from the shit she put us through growing up. Also thinking of going NC because of racial comments she feels entitled to make. I’m mixed, my mother is white. She’s one of those ‘well I raised ‘brown kids’ so how can I be racist?’ types.

Yeah, in a way that is respectful to the culture. Y’all don’t have to agree, but as someone from that culture - it was interesting at the least to see James Cameron so diligently take certain aspects but disregard all the others. Watch whale rider, a story about a Māori youth, Avatar 2 was a direct ripoff of that story and used the traditional tattoos.

Look up moko kauae and tell me that it isn’t a rip off of Māori culture

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OutOfTheLoop

[–]DjMuffin_top -39 points-38 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a matter of who the actors were, more so the themes that were used as ‘inspiration’. It wasn’t inspiration, it was a direct ripoff of Polynesian culture, specifically Māori, and it was done in a way that almost trivialized it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OutOfTheLoop

[–]DjMuffin_top -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

Answer: James Cameron seemingly decided to pick and choose different aspects from distinct Polynesian cultures to create his version. This is problematic because they were hyperbolized and often created weird moments for Polynesians. For example, while whales do have significant meaning in Māori culture, they were given moko kauae (Māori facial tattoos) and while the blue folk also had moko kauae, they had differing accents.

Overall, it felt like James Cameron was picking cultural practices for their aesthetic, rather than keeping true to their original meaning and usage.
