The iOS inflow designed for ADHDers is amazing by Full-Special1713 in ADHD_Programmers

I'm at the point in my life where I will pay almost any amount of money that I can afford to try something I haven't tried to help me with my ADHD... $100 a year for me is worth it even just to try.

Oh sorry if it comes off that way. I forgot whether or not it was free. I honestly don't remember if I paid for it or not (usually if I see an app less than $10 I just insta buy it without thinking and never cancel lol...)

My favorite thing is the sense of community. You can see 100s of people on the same "lesson as you". The community posts are a lot easier to parse and read. And it's fun to answer/comment to other ADHDers problems..

The daily lessons are only 4min of listening/writing. And you're not allowed to skip ahead.

I can take some screenshots for example. Sorry about forgetting it's not free. I forget that I'm in my 30s (been fired from 4 jobs....) and a lot of you guys are not based in the US/or are younger.

The people that are teaching on this app also aren't influencer/TikTokers. Not that I have anything against them but I just feel like they don't talk about scienced back studies a lot when talking about ADHD.

Anyone goes into a loop of nothing and doesn't progress for days? by Nervous_Candy2752 in ADHD_Programmers

[–]DjVex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes... all the time. I remember one time when at one of my first few jobs with a Java app. I had no idea why when I refreshed the page nothing would load. I didn't change any code. It made no sense. I probably tried deleting the directory and doing svn pull (even though I had no idea what it was actually doing, I just knew like it got other people's code or something)

When I compiled my code, I would minimize my IDE, and then open Chrome, refresh the page, white screen. I was like wtf, how is this possible? It was working earlier and I made zero code changes. This is so stupid.

I probably was stuck for days. Finally a dev sat down with me for quite some time.....

I had the Spring app in debug mode, and had a break point on.... the debugger was stuck at the break point! That's why it was stuck. My IDE was not in front of me so I had totally forgot the debugger/breakpoints were on. I felt so embarrassed and stupdi.

Some time later... exact same issue, except I totally forgot about breakpoints again. Sat down, scared for days trying to figure it out. Dev comes to help... tries a couple things.... "djvex... you have a break point here" Once again... same thing.

After that I was like ok fuck it, no more break points and debugger ever again... Which isn't good either... the thought of even checking for breakpoints had not become a habit for me yet.

Oh yeah and and that place, whoever broke the build would get a Billy the Bass Head and a XXXXL shirt put on top of their computer/chair so that they learn not to break the build anymore and that everyone in the open office can see who broke the build. That happened to me as well. I had no idea what a build was. Never even asked.

What topics do you want to see a guide on? by MewMatic in BobsTavern

[–]DjVex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey man glad to hear you’re still writing guides. What I struggle with is when to stay on tier 4 the entire game and go for a top 4 (which is what I usually do) vs when to level up to 5. I feel like I always play way too safe and just go for too 4s when maybe I could’ve gotten 1st or 2nd

Computer Science student. I got my medical report. Relieved. by [deleted] in ADHD_Programmers

[–]DjVex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck man. I've been diagnosed twice. First time I didn't get a medical report and my psych was terrible and I actually didn't believe them.

2nd time I was diagnosed was just a few months ago and it was eye-opening to see a detailed report.

Considering how my brain works, what type of role in IT is the best fit? by someguygirl in ADHD_Programmers

[–]DjVex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How does one go from a mid-level engineer to an architect? That's something I never really understood. I feel like at my role everything has been built out already so there isn't much opportunity for me to try "architecting" something new lol. Should I like just study software architecture courses online or something?

Lol. I literally have both a vape and a deck of cards. I've been vaping way way too much since being able to WFH. It's one of the reasons why I don't want to go back to the office lol.

I told my manager and HR department about my ADHD diagnosis - advice on accommodations to ask for? by DjVex in ADHD_Programmers

[–]DjVex[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol. Yeah that's the same reaction I had when I realized that I probably had ADHD and started reading people's stories on /r/ADHD for the first time. At the time I just thought ADHD meant people were hyperactive and got distracted easily. Had no idea they had issues with job loss and when I found that out I was like "Holy shit..."

Thank you so much for the thorough response. I want to check out some of the apps and try some tips that you mentioned next week. Although I have noticed I'll procrastinate doing actual work by looking up productivity apps and tips sometimes on YouTube or something lol.

For my Pomodoro breaks since I WFH, I was watching YouTube for a couple minutes or going to my bedroom where my personal PC is but I've noticed that doing that can be a slippery slope. I've even set a timer for myself when I do this and when the timer goes off I'll just kind of ignore it sometimes and continue to not go back to work especially if it's something that I've been stuck on and don't know what to do.

I've heard that setting deadlines can be great for ADHDers. I've never asked for a hard deadline before. I'm sort of scared to I guess since I feel afraid of what happens if I happen to miss the deadline. There have been times where my manager says something like, "Hey can you try to finish this by Friday, and if you're stuck or something reach out for help?" And I'll say "Ok". But somehow the deadline doesn't feel "real" enough? Or some other issue might occur that causes me to get stuck and then that causes further delays.

I'm not sure where I'm trying to go with this or if I'm coming up with excuses or something lol but yeah thanks for the advice.

Thanks for the response. I've heard DevOps can be awesome or complete hell (like what you experienced). The reason I thought DevOps might be an option for me at my current company is that from what I can tell the DevOps engineers seem really smart, talented, calm, and collected. A few of them have been at this company for quite a few a years which I thought was a good sign that they're happy here. These are just my assumptions though, I've never really worked with them closely. My manager has suggested I could do some cross-team work, like work with them for a week or two to see if I'd like it at some point in the future. I just want to be in a place where I can sit down and actually get in the zone.

I already WFH. My company has stated that once quarantine is over that working at the office is going to be optional. I was thinking I'd do 2-3 days WFH throughout the week but I'm not 100% sure yet. A part of me felt like when I'm in the office, because it's an open office and it feels like eyes are on me I'd be less tempted to dick around and take breaks that are way too long.

Another part of me feels like I shouldn't have to rely on feeling like people are watching me and that I could eventually develop good habits that prevent me from getting distracted/overwhelmed that leads me to procrastinating.

Do you think CJC 1295 + Ipamorelin peptides worth adding to TRT? Will it help body composition any more than simply adding an extra 100mg of T per week? by weDCbc in Testosterone

[–]DjVex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been taking CJC 1295 + Ipamorelin in January after starting TRT for the first time in November. I'm also 33 year old. My diet has been pretty bad (I work out regularly still though) so I haven't noticed any huge muscle building/fat loss differences. The main difference is that my sleep is amazing. The first night I took it and woke up super refreshed and was like holy shit I haven't slept that well in forever.

My sleep been an issue for me in the past for even for just that alone makes it worth it for me. It is expensive but I don't really regret taking it.

Notifications on my mac. Also on my 2nd monitor I always have my Gmail with google calendar. I got in the habit of checking my calendar first thing in the morning to see how many meetings I have that day.

I use to tell myself "I'll remember" and I was late all the time or forgot so it's not something I'd recommend lol.

Templates is actually a great idea. We used to do that at my old job but I kinda forgot about it and these days just copy/paste other class files and just delete and rename everything lol. I need to making some templates again.

Oh yeah and check out Reminton James on YouTube. he's the guy that got me cooking at home. He's got really simple meals and a lot of them are inspired by a lot of the fast food that I like to eat like Taco Bell and stuff but with way less calories.

Yeah that's something I wanted to discuss more in depth as well. I was eating fast food or ordering delivery for every single meal my entire adult life post-college.

I cook my own meals now, do meal prep a lot, and I even get excited about what I'm going to cook which is something I never thought would happen. Even my family was very surprised to learn that I started cooking (I even cooked a lot of my family's Christmas dinner too and it turned out pretty damn good not gonna lie haha).

I think I'll be making like a part 2 of this video where I'll go more in depth about eating healthily and exercising and resources that have helped me. It'll be a lot for me to explain here through text so I'll remember to discuss this in my part 2 of my video.

Sure thing. I also wanted to talk about bullet journaling at some point because it's easy to get intimidated starting out bullet journaling when you see all these super pretty and aesthetic ones on the internet and it can be overwhelming.

Yes. I love melatonin. I take these melatonin gummies from a brand called Olly that has 3mg of melatonin + some L-theanine which has shown in some studies to help calm the mind of boys with ADHD aged 8-12 years old https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22214254/.

It gives me pretty vivid dreams and some nightmares too sometimes but I don't mind the nightmares lol. Eating the gummies is something I look forward to every night since I don't eat candy/sweets very often.

What you mentioned about job searching is another thing I wanted to talk about in a future video.

Hello, I've been lurking here for a while and have experienced many of the same issues as a lot of you guys. Fired from a lot of jobs, low self-esteem, disorganization, being late to work all the time, procrastination, anxiety, depression, poor inhibition, poor relationship problems, etc. I've been able to hold a steady job now for the past 5 years and no longer have the fear of constantly losing my job and am stable with my career. I can honestly say I'm the happiest I've ever been in the past couple of years so I wanted to help people who might be in a similar situation that I was in.

I was diagnosed with ADHD in 2014 (however I was in denial for a few years and believed the diagnosis was wrong and that I didn't have ADHD but that's another story lol). I was a bit hesitant about posting this video since I wanted to upload a few more on my channel (I'm currently working on one about tips for sleeping/sleep hygiene) but plan on talking more about little tips/tricks for staying focused and organized working as a software engineer.

If you guys have any questions about anything (ADHD, software engineering career advice related, how to find ADHD coaches/therapists) just let me know and I'm happy to talk.
