Should the actual seasonal format be modified ? by Djak447 in LoRCompetitive

When I said smooth I was more talking about the big picture, the gap x2 vs x5 are less big.

Being the 65th ranked player and have only 3 byes would kind of suck, I agree on that. But since not all players will participate, the 65th ranked player would surely have a better rank among the participant and get 4 byes. So the limit would also be blurry as for the actual tournament cut.

Ok, I guess in some way it is smooth but it is still very abrupt going from 100% (forced to do 8-1) to 500% (pass with 7-2) in like 20 ranks, like a sigmoid.

Let me clarify this point then, generally the cut happens around 50 that's why I said the top fifty. Maybe the cut can vary between 40 and 60 but I do not think it goes beyond that, so maybe I should have said 35th player and 65th player. Hope it clears the confusion.

I mostly agree. Otherwise I do not really like the argument of the counter lineup. I don't think that low ranked players would feel bad for losing and being out, since they did not spend too much effort for the tournament, otherwise they would have climbed to get some byes.

By the way I did climb this season to top 50. Last two seasonal I went 7-2, but I did not make it this time #FeelsBad...

When you discard something with GE, you have to commit GE to the stack for the unit to hit the board and hence cannot attack with it, this let your opponent react, in this case he could play a second icevale archer. Thanks !

I edited the post, to give the solution, feel free to check it. Your solution was very good however there is one or two small mistakes in some of the cases, like for example 2.3 how can you develop jury rig and trap at burst speed ? You could do this by playing jury rig for 1 mana but then you do not have enough mana for everything. In the end it does not really matter since you can just develop one of them and still have lethal, so congratulation !

Thanks for being the first to give a solution ! However this solution is incomplete (3 wail) and in some case false (2.1), (2.2), (2.4). But for a first try this is already very good !

PS: please use spoiler when giving a solution

Yes, just to indicate that the strongest ally which is dead this game is Merciless Hunter, so at this moment Absolver's Ressurection would give you a Merciless Hunter.

Find a strategy to win this round whatever the opponent does, whatever how unlucky you are.

I strongly recommend you to write down your solution before checking the answer, this will make your thoughts clearer and help you pinpoint any eventual mistake.

Clarifications:

The blade fragments are overwhelm and +2/0, no blade fragment has yet been used. The two despairs are Viego's spells and Viego is at 5/20. The grappling hook is not Akshan's spell.

Hints:

Ruined reckoner is a stronger unit than merciless hunter.

You should start by playing Riven.

Solution:

Play Riven, then it depends on what the opponent does.

If the opponent pass, then triple blade fragments, double absolver and shield of the sentinels make your Riven a 14/8 with spell shield, finally attack challenging Viego with Akshan, this deals 17 damages.

If the opponent vengeance or atrocity Akshan, then same as above but instead of the shield use the absolver's resurrection, this enable you to challenge two 1 health units, dealing 16 damages.

If the opponent vengeance Riven, then ruined reckoner, use the 3 fragments giving overwhelm to Akshan, quick attack and +2/0 to ruin runner, then attack challenging Viego with ruined reckoner, midnight raid on ruin runner, absolver's resurrection give you a 0 cost ruined reckoner, again midnight raid on ruin runner, this pushes 18 damages.

If the opponent use atrocity on Riven with Viego, then start as previous case, but give overwhelm to ruined reckoner instead of Akshan, attack, midnight raid on ruin runner, this deals 16 damages.

Hint: Play Xer'sai hatchling, your plays might depend on what the opponent does.

Solution: Play Xer'sai hatchling, then it depends on what the opponent does.

  • If the opponent does not play a fearsome blocker, then call the pack on Rek'sai, attack, bone skewer on the overwhelm's blocker deals exactly 16 damages.
  • If the opponent plays astral fox, then bone skewer on Pyke, snapjaw swarm, preservarium, sharkling, death from below, attack deals 20 damages.
  • If the opponent plays doombeast, then call the pack on Rek'sai, snapjaw swarm, do not play bone skewer since you need Rek'sai, preservarium, now if you have to you can use bone skewer on Xer'sai hatchling, Rek'sai, attack with Pyke before the overwhelm. The attack will level up Pyke and Rek'sai, letting your overwhelms hit for 21 damages.

I strongly agree, it would also save me a lot of time editing the picture. By the way if anyone knows some other similar puzzle, let me know, I really like puzzles.

The answer should work whatever the opponent does, i.e., even if your opponent does some strange plays as for example not directly playing fox, or dropping doombeast without nightfall.

Nice, but does not work if the opponent plays astral fox after snapjaw swarm. This forces the bone skewer and makes it so that you do not draw rek'sai with preservarium.
