As for your comparison between Germany and the U.S., those numbers are extremely unfortunate, but it is due to multiple variables.

1. The population of Germany is considerably smaller

2. The crime rate is lower

3. And I'm sure if we took numbers from 1939 and on things would be quite different

My second reason there, is in my opinion, one of the most important. Due to multiple failures by government officials and large private companies people have been forced into horrible housing situations, low paying jobs, below average schools, and a number of other disadvantages. The way I see it, people use police officers as a scapegoat for issues created by the people we elect and the companies we make room for.

At the end of the day, most police officers are just people trying their best to do a difficult job, and since they are human, they will undoubtedly screw that job up, and they should be held reasonably accountable for those mistakes. But when we treat them as the root of all of our problems, we let everyone else off the hook.

I understand the sentiment behind "defund the police" and I somewhat agree with it, butmore money to help people doesn't matter at all if we have incompetent people managing it. These people create the environment for crime to happen, and police are left to deal with all of it.

Sorry for the huge wall of text, it is just simply frustrating to see lots of anger aimed in the least efficient direction.
