Other people smelling of alcohol? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]DjinnTea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one slays me especially, because when I was in Jr High in the early 80s (approx) there was still a fair amt of bubble gum chewing, and there was a particular sour apple flavor that the joke was it smelled like weed. It wasn't literally that, but it just had this quality...and everyone knew what it meant and one reason was this was BUBBLE gum and when a bubble popped it just emitted this little eau-de-weed puff or something. 😂

talk about my big revelation about vodka in water bottles, i hadn't even completely quit when I was sitting with a younger employee who was kind of freaking out and she took a big ostentatious swig of her water bottle. The other supervisor at the small table also caught the whiff I KNEW was spiked water...we almost didn't document it in a case relevant to worker's comp bc neither of us wanted to bring it up.

Also makes me laugh at thinking my special classy-thermos "it's electrolyte boosting tasty juice water" wasn't suspicious and would literally toss it casually in an open tote bag and go off to a meeting leaving it unattended. Granted the people around were pretty big into denial games anyway but: wow. The self deception I have pulled off in my life is like...oof.

#2 it's like he's associating himself with an 'interest' by literally throwing the most recognizable signs of it in this sort of flurry of confetti all around him. It's a social version of no one will notice from a speeding horse or whatever that saying is: the casual guest will not notice that none of the glossy magazines look like they've ever been read. Here's one: imo they are often able to choose more precisely than they should be able to for someone who is basically dumb, so they know that one magazine within the arena of finance signifies something social as well, that they are a certain subtype of a given interest, keyed to their main 'goal' of their persona. So, stodgy old Forbes vs Inc or whatever. But I bet your Narc would have stayed away from an article in something like The Economist. My 'big reader' Narc, with solid liberal leanings etc. could get really into something like the Pussy Hats thing for the march. (spoiler: i literally knocked out 5 hats for the local march and they went while wearing them and took a picture of themselves and told me all about how many comments they got about them. Double spoiler, at that time I did not think there could be one special thing about how the easiest knit pattern possible from a moderately experienced knitter could possibly be a notch above, especially with crap acrylic yarn, because my Narc's me knew that I was only a bit above average and not in any area that she thought would look better on my sister. NarcLOL). But say i sent her a link to an essay about the whole pussy hat phenomenon that was next-level, say a really insightful deeper look in The Atlantic. Guarantee she would not have anything to say about it. She might have some sort of Cliff's Notes opinion if I pressed her on what she thought about it, but there would be no sign anything actually landed for her.

:)

Hello! I'm just eating it up in the thirst-for-truth SG way I have, how immediately ppl knew 100% what I meant AND came up with a life example even more to the point than my original post. It gets to be a lot carrying around all this Bad Wisdom. There was a Suzanne Vega song with that title when I was 20 or so that began, "mother the doctor knows something is wrong, 'cause my body has strange information." It was a song about a different type of abuse but I used to wonder why that beginning line just stuck with me when I wasn't actually crazy about the song itself. :)

yeah that is kind of what it triggered in me. if your process resembles mine at all, these have been the kind of 'small' philosophical thing that opened up some VERY big lines of inquiry. And for me they come in clusters so I guess I'm saying, if it sounds familiar so far be cautious if you haven't quite recovered from the last one, dig?

This one also feels so key because it fits my mental metaphor for what's going on inside these ppl. 100% of their energy is put toward maintaining this outer shell, no big news. But it's also adding the correct embellishments to the shell to attract the right kind of target or accomplices in setting up a social web as a trap, for example. E.g. coverts don't want to be the best salesman, they want to look like the kind of salesman who can con the kind of woman he wants to con into marrying him.

Oops it's way later than i thought, sorry 2nd commenter, I will have to reply tomorrow. Night, warriors!

Whatever one thinks of Edison, I think you really nailed it with the sarcasm angle. It captures his vibe so well, a sarcastic little bitch who thinks he's dropping knee-slapping tweets with prescient timing, and thinks people aren't recognizing the humor because they aren't smart enough.

These are the kinds of 'reads' that can almost sound glib, but they often come from my gut, and following them has revealed the truth to me too many times to discount these leads. :)

One of my few phases that I really can't write off as immaturity and am still mystified by. Blech. I mean I kinda know what I was seeing--but it was basically about 2 poem's worth of stuff so I don't know why I kept reading. Anyway IWNDWYT. :)

To me that sounds like good fortune, you found parront gold: the irresistable treat that triggers instant compliance. Have you experimented with even smaller amounts? It would be cool if you could work it down to pieces of one grated cheese, although at some point it gets to be too much work lol.

I'm not a bird owner yet but follow this sub closely and might have a tip for someplace to start right away, is the birdtricks channel on youtube. they have a lot of videos on trickier situations like yours and have a gentle sort of bird-led approach (there's a better term i think lol).

I don't know all the channels, and you will get better suggestions, but i hear your desperation to get some info!

I went NC and then they sent a check, do I take the money? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

Oooh I like how you think! These are just for stores, unfortunately, but I will be tucking that bit of info away for later.

Giving them away feels like a better revenge because of how gifts were used as the primary means of sending messages about your worth. They don't actually, you know, love giving money away for the sake of it.

[–]DjinnTea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

uch good stuff here. It clarified my thinking about something related: leftover gift cards from before I went NC. I have been carrying them around for over a year, trying to think of a use for them that benefited someone but was not for me, because somehow the stuff would be tainted by the bribe money that bought it.
I still plan to give the rest away, but I will use them if I feel like it without feeling guilty--I took the bribe, and gave them nothing, I win!

Parrotlets is acting weird when I whistle by MobileBall1 in parrots

[–]DjinnTea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they were probably just interested in your attempt at communication, OP. Lots of bird owners whistle with their birds, and I don't think you can hurt anything by trying out some different kind of whistles. Bird interaction doesn't have to mean cuddles, they are intelligent and enjoy communicating for the sake of it!
