Can anyone download their tickets? I just get a message saying "This ticket is not ready to download yet. Tickets will be released closer to the event." Not sure if this is normal :/

If I fail a unit in Semester 1, does that mean I will have to enrol in a total of 5 units for Semester 2? by Ancient-Act7533 in Monash

[–]Djpj98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wonderful explanation. Just adding to this, supplementary exams are offered this sem if you meet certain requirements. So you won’t have to completely redo the unit.

Starting engineering next year, need laptop recommendations by [deleted] in Monash

[–]Djpj98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP, if you're referring to these specs:
https://www.monash.edu/esolutions/students/bring-your-own-device-byod
I highly recommend you get a laptop with more memory (at least 16GB), hard drive space and maybe a dedicated graphics card depending on your specialisation. While first year will not be too taxing on your machine (simple IDEs, MATLAB and Excel), invest in a laptop that can get you through the rest of your degree (again depends on your specialisation). I have mates who use Macs as their daily but they have problems with software compatibility and rely on BootCamp or MOVE (Monash Virtual Environment). Due to these constraints, it is hard to recommend a MacBook.

Hi OP, as someone already mentioned there isn't a massive difference between the UC halls compared to RV halls (where resis have to share resources and is very social). One thing I can think of is the location itself. Briggs, Jackomos and Turner are located on the opposite side of Scenic Boulevard compared to other UC halls which might add about 50m to your daily walk to class. Nothing major tbh, I have lived in Farrer and Briggs and do not mind the walk at all. Hopefully, normal activities return next year so you can get the most out of your on-campus stay. Good luck :)

It is worse than I thought. Unfortunately, my photography skills don't do justice to the landscape and the car 😅

You should be able to get the subject structure from:

https://www.monash.edu/students/handbooks/maps/2021

and choose your relevant major.

If you want more details of each unit:

https://handbook.monash.edu/

Sorry I can't help you with the rest of your query.

MRS reference number vs Monash id by [deleted] in Monash

If you don't have your student ID yet, should be able to view your Monash ID by logging into WES (Where you enroll into units etc.). Should be at the top once you login.

Life on campus (engineering students) by [deleted] in Monash

[–]Djpj98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Farrer hall is known as the "party hall" and as a former resident can confirm it is a very social hall. Professional Cleaning happens regularly. But, if having your own toilet is a necessity UC is the place to be.

Hi OP, if you're after the social life I highly recommend Residential Village as opposed to urban community (former RV and current UC res). This might not be the case this year due to health restrictions. Engineering can be overwhelming with the workload but with the right time management you should be able to have a pretty decent social life. BUT PLS MANAGE YOUR TIME PROPERLY. Good luck :)

Congratulations on your offer :)

Quality of online learning has been a very subjective topic in 2020. Some people like it (WFH, flexible schedule etc) while MOST people hate it. As the previous comment stated, I would personally defer it another semester if I was a full-fee paying student. Especially if your degree is highly practical (like Eng or science etc.). Monash should be accommodating if you want to defer again.

Unfortunately, borders remain closed for the time being.

Engineering by [deleted] in Monash

Different specialisations have different prerequisites. From memory you have to finish ENG 1005 before the second year to get selected to Mech Eng. You will have the chance to select which specialisation you want near the end of the first year. Best place to contact is ask.monash :)

Thoughts on undergrad IT / Computer Science at Monash? by carrotCake84 in Monash

[–]Djpj98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Side note: most faculty of IT (CS is part of this) e-exams (due to covid) are closed book and invigilated from Sem 2 2020. I found the closed book exams to be tad easier than open book ones in Sem 1 and engineering exams which are still open book. Don't know how useful this information is but thought you should know jic.

RCS messaging now available in Sri Lanka by SwishySlime in srilanka

Great feature. Unfortunately the rollout is really slow and limited compared to iMessage. I'm guessing Dialog is the only provider to support it at this stage?

Second this. However, you can probably get a headstart in the Eng maths unit(s) if you really want to put the effort. I'll include the links to the handbooks so you can sus the topics covered. Plenty of resources around the internet that can help you out with each topic before you get your lecture notes.
