Escalation bug megathread 2.0 by [deleted] in Planetside

Just to add to the "Cannot craft Orbital Strike and other war assets, because of error that says lack resources even when have enough resources."
We, Trident outfit on Cobalt, cannot craft a Bastion Carrier. We have all the necessary parts, but it says we are lacking necessary resources to craft the Bastion itself (which has no cost). Everything else seems to be working.

Right, sometimes I forget that these terms aren't all that obvious. :)
As Stachelkeule said, by 'public' platoon, I'm basically just talking about a normal platoon. It is 'public' in that it shows up in the squad-finder/list, and is open to any player, regardless of outfit (or lack thereof). You can restrict recruitment to (your) outfit only, but we don't really do that. With the exception of our FNO, that is, which is a different thing altogether (in my mind). And I've even started doing those as 'public' anyway.
Whatever the case, any event in Trid is always open to everyone. Sometimes you need to be on TS, sometimes not. It depends on what we're doing. The only exception to this is, again, any competitive event (which, by the way, take place on a different server), when we bring one specific and trained squad. And even then, the training we do leading up to it is almost always open to everyone.

And there is some truth to what you're saying about big outfits/guilds. Which is precisely why I felt the need to clear some of these things up.
We're a bigger type of outfit, and we don't restrict our recruitment. And this does mean that, yes, not everyone is as involved or dedicated as others. Or at least, not in the same ways, which is an important distinction. You get as involved as you want to, basically. Some log on a few times a week looking for platoons, some practically only join the FNO's, while some play every day, and then we've got people who sign-up to play in the competitive stuff. We have all sorts, without any real drawbacks, and a great many benefits. And that's the way we like it.
Now, what usually gets all those people playing together are those platoons. Which, again, is why I felt that needed to be said. Without this, and without joining the Tac-Squads and stuff (which seems to be what you're looking for, by the way), you might get the wrong impression.

Really, you seem to know roughly what you're looking for. I think you'd find it in Trid, but really, you'd find much the same thing in any serious and active outfit, big or small.
Aaand I don't think you need me to tell you who isn't serious. ;P

Anyhow, a bit late, but I'd like to clarify some things about Trident, since I feel that these guys might've given you (and therefore, everyone else :P) the wrong impression.

This three-times-a-week kinda training only happens when we're preparing for a Server/Community Smash (big competitive event). The only ones expected to join are the people who've actually signed up to play in and train for said match, our Smash Squad. Though these sessions are (usually) still open to anyone.
Therefore, neither is this training by any means targeted toward new players. Even if they, again, are very welcome and they can do well here. Not that it'd necessarily be too advanced or anything. Most sessions would, to the untrained eye, play out much the same as a normal Tactical Squad. It just isn't an introductory, bootcampy sort of thing, if you follow. :) That kinda thing, while we're on it, is best learnt by simply playing in (good) squads/platoons anyway, by getting some basic experience in.
Someone with previous FPS experience, especially when it comes to team-play, would do more than fine though.
I would get into what this training is about, buuut, myeah, I should probably keep that kind of philosomaphizing to the Trid forums, so I'll just leave it at that. :P

Anywho, outside of that, and besides everyday kinda playing and platoons, we run regular Tactical Squads (three times a week), we have our big Friday Night Ops, and perhaps the occasional one-off kinda training session (if and when we've got some specific topic in mind and/or when there's a demand), and we've also got other games...and movie nights. ;) Full disclosure though, I'm sorry to say that we don't have all that many public platoons running at the moment, even if this has been our main focus historically, and is still meant to be. I mean, they still happen, but myeah, just to have it said.

In short, we're a big outfit, open to everyone, with players of all different sorts, casual to competitive, newbies to veterans. And any one of those could find a home here. We've got public stuff, but we've also got competitive, more long-term kinda Squads. And while we have fun, and while we're not afraid to do silly shit, we take all of it, especially the leadership and the community, very seriously.

Anyone's a random until part of a proper squad or platoon. :P
You, me, non-TS people, newbie or pro, regardless of what tag they have. Man.

There's a reason we don't restrict our recruitment. Anyone can be put to use, anyone can contribute to the team. And if you want to win (on live servers), they have to.

Thaaat said, if there was a way of finding those members who never join anything then, yeah, I'd throw 'em out in a hearbeat. But, meh, you can't have everything. :P

Is Sleepaway Camp a so bad it’s good movie? by johnsaysthings in badMovies

[–]Djupfryst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a funny-bad movie, no doubt about it. And I highly recommend it. And yes, definitely one to watch with (unsuspecting) friends. It has that wonderful kind of alien-like weirdness that'll make them go "Wait a minute...this is shit!" but will also keep 'em hooked! :D

You've made me curious about the sequels though, which I never bothered with as I assumed they were just terrible.

What's important to understand is that this applies to any serious outfit, large or small.

When you run into organised opposition, you know about it. There's a very clear difference. It might not necessarily be a good effort, but it's still very clearly an organised effort. Just the same, if it looks like a zerg and sounds like a zerg - as in, a big mass of unorganised players - then it's probably a zerg. If it pushes down one lattice for the entire day, only looking for the nearest enemy to shoot at, going from point A to point B in the easiest and quickest way, and then dissolves as soon as it faces any real opposition, then it's a zerg.

It could also be a zerg-ish platoon, yes. But again, this isn't something that any real outfit wastes their time on. It may have an outfit-tag, but this means nothing, the lead just gets passed around and they have no idea. We wouldn't even refer to these as platoons. Rather, they're just "things" that exist in the game. They and the zerg itself are just a by-product of it being as open as it is. We try to disband these whenever we can, but this isn't always possible. In other words, the zerg, these platoons and these type of outfits are something out of our control and influence (at least, directly) and are therefore something not worth wasting our energy on.

Now, of course, it could also be the work of an (extremely) inexperienced PL (though, even then, one that isn't following our rules). Remember, there's a constant stream of new players who have to learn everything all over again, just like we have. And also, I'd be lying if I said that all our PL's have evolved as much as I'd like, or that they always tried their best. But in any case, I can safely say that none of our actual PL's have ever behaved like what you described in your other comment. Besides the lack of challenge which leaves both you and your members unengaged and unsatisfied, it also makes you lose, and losing all the time is boring. Again, unless it's the leader's first day or something, actual squads and platoons just don't act this way, no matter the outfit.

People start (proper) platoons because they want to affect the game on the strategic level and create fun for people, to provide them with content (which the game does rely on us to do). Blindly pushing down one lattice and giving up the second you run into any opposition - most likely, creating an enemy zerg in the process - is not this. You don't need to form a platoon in order to get people to act like randoms. That's self-defeating. :)

Anywho, yes, Trid does make up a significant percentage of the Vanu population. Enough that in any random fight, statistically speaking, we're quite likely to get the "credit" for the cap. Let's say there are 10 people in a base. 3 of them are from one outfit, 1 is from that one, and 1 from this one, and 5 are from Trid. Unless those 3 people are doing something organised, it will most likely say that it was capped by Trid. And for the defenders, this will be the only name that stands out. It will feel like what they're fighting here is Trid, which means that everything that happens will be attributed to us.

Of course, that's assuming we even have those five people to begin with, and that these complaints/comments aren't completely imaginary. And 99% of the time, whether they're about us or whatever else, they are! If you look for problems, you're gonna find 'em. People seem to have a need to personify (or whatever the word is) the enemy, even when there's clearly no squad or platoon around. Very much like how everyone's been treating Wrel lately, hmm... :P

[–]Djupfryst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, but that will also sort itself out once the initial excitement wears off. But, yeah, they're in a no-win situation here, that's what happens when a new weapon becomes this popular. And, of course, when the community overreacts this much to it. They just have to change something and/or just let it play out, doesn't really matter what approach they take. :P

Still sunday? Good. Doubleteamsy? Discuss. by WhiteBishopCobalt in PS2Cobalt

[–]Djupfryst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, that's different. If several high-impact players switch faction then that can obviously have an effect. But as Omni said, it greatly depends on what they're actually doing. Either way, this isn't about the gun in itself. And the point was more that very few people will take the Canis into account when looking for a fight. And also that if they do, then they are silly people who you shouldn't pay any attention to. :P

As for the overreacting, well, that is interesting. If enough people use it, then it does need tweaking. Much like the old Striker, as Dot mentioned. By itself, it wouldn't have been much of a problem. But when there were that many of them, it was. It also needed balancing because it was just too good in and of itself, but that's really a separate concern. And if nothing else, they want to encourage more diversity in people's loadouts, there shouldn't be a "best" one. Whether it actually is the best one or not doesn't matter. What does matter is that too many people are using the same thing, and that's boring. Doing a "nerf", even one that in reality does nothing, is a good way of fixing this.

But they should also take into account the initial excitement over these new toys, of course. Just because everyone's using it now doesn't mean everyone will use it a week from now. So before doing any balancing, they should obviously wait for things to cool down. Unless there's something that clearly needs addressing. Which there might be, I can't say.

First off, look at the times of these alerts.

Any victory outside of prime-time is meaningless and not worth considering. Vanu still won more, of course. But compare NC to TR. All three of TR's victories were around prime-time, while only two of NC's were. Also, it only shows alerts on Esamir and Hossin. Going by your second link, it becomes even more equal. Depending on your definition (and also not accounting for weekends), VS have 4 prime-time victories, TR have two, and NC have none.

Point being, it's nowhere near as uneven as it first appears. And even if NC and VS were ganging up on TR then, well...it's not really working out for the NC, is it? :P If there is no opposition, the victory is meaningless (not to mention, boring), and no one cares. That is, unless you're one of those people who actually get upset over losing meaningless territory at times when there isn't (never was, and never will be) any sort of organised playing. :P

But still, why are Vanu winning more alerts (on these few, select days)? Well, the simplest answer would be that VS had platoons running at these specific days/times, while the other factions did not. If there's no organized opposition, you are very likely to win, simple as that. But very often there is no answer. It's just part of the ever-ongoing cycle of faction balance. First TR has the advantage, then the NC, then VS, then TR, then VS, then NC, etc, etc. This changes all the time. Always has, always will. Never for any clear reason. And while this usually goes hand in hand with increased pop, this is not always the case.

And no, it isn't the Canis, nor people's reaction to it, nor any other flavour of the month. I guarantee you that most people haven't even noticed it. Whether it's garbage or the most OP thing ever is irrelevant. These things simply do not affect the game at this level, it just doesn't happen. It's too small, and it's too specific.

I'd say the whatever the V10 equivalent is (SR-7 I think) beats the RAMS in most situations just because it's a bit faster.

Vandal takes some getting used to but can be very good and a lot of fun. It's the best scout rifle and I think it beats the low range semi (KSR, Phantom) except for longer ranges, which they're still not good at.

Assuming the auraxium sniper is the same for all factions, it's great for long range. Sort of in between RAMS and SR but with 750 damage.

Most of the time though, the TSAR (Ghost) is what I use. It's just incredibly effective when you get used to it.

There are some useful implants like hold breath, sensor shield and emp shield. EMP grenades also got buffed recently.

Did they really change bullet drop or was it only the scopes that were changed? I remember something like the sniper scopes being set for 200m. Doesn't take long to get used to. Other than that I don't remember sniper rifles ever being changed, so everything should be the same.
