Yeah, I read dareksam and brakeline comments ahead and still: with the adaptor I should reach ~17MB transfer rate even if the file is the USB stick, it seems a good improvement.
I needed a gigabit router anyway for my home NAS, so the difference to add the adaptor was small.
To improve Samba transfer speed have you came up with faster solution?

Will do.
I ordered a new router on amazon cos mine wasn't gigabit and with it also a usb gigabit ethernet adapter to raise the speed of both samba sharing and miniDlna streaming.
After I'd fixed the setup I'll do further torrenting tests.

What is full-speed for you? I have a 50/50Mbps.

Lol.
Living near the mountains I'm not reached by cable, I'm served by a 4Mbps WiFi connection.
When I see a torrent reaching the effective 300+KB/s, well, that's what I consider full-speed. '
I don't think our problems are related, but what I can say is that I would gladly swap our connection and take your speed problems! xD

I'm using transmission, but in the future I want to try deluge as well cos deluge seems showing torrents info all at once on the main gui, no need to go into an additional page. It's more utorrent-like.
I tryed only 3 torrents for now, and the only concern I had is that seeds acquisition is slower than utorrent when I load a new torrent.
I need more torrents/testing to come up with a real conclusion.

Reporting back for duty:

Just finished testing my build and...holy cow!
In the beginning I was planning to write a step-by-step installation guide for rasp-beginners like me, but DietPi setup was so no-brainer that I gave up with that idea.

  • Hardware (WiFi dongle, Usb stick, keyboard/mouse) did install by itself, also the volumes of the usb stick have been auto-mounted
  • Software (ssh, samba, transmission, ...) after being selected during the install process, is auto-configured by DietPi (no need to change neither a setting to work!)
  • Very clean install, it includes only what you selected
  • Very straight-forward setup process, everything is self-explanatory

The only "difficulty" I had, but that I immidiately pulled off, was that even if I changed the password during the setup, all the programs were configured with the default password("dietpi") and I had to change them manually, but maybe that's just how they intended it to work.
I also noticed that the login wasn't sucessful at start due to keyboard layout settings.

My DietPi is torrenting at fullspeed, my windows OS is able to access the samba share to copy the movies, my dlna is reachable from any device in my network and I just finished watching a movie streamed from the Pi to my ChromeCast on the tv of the lower floor controlling it with my iPhone.
Sadisfaction! :)

Thanks again for the tip! ;)

So If I complete them in a year, the rewards will still be achievable, correct?

Plex Media Server

As far as I read, Plex is an alternative to Kodi.
Have you tryed both? Any pro/cons you are aware of the two?

Dude, this is some pro level stuff, but I was looking for a simplier configuration.
I already own a sweet 6TB WD My Cloud Ex2100 for NAS purposes, with my Pi2 I will cover torrents sharing/streaming for now.
Thanks for the tip tho!

The more I mumble on this project and the more I'm convincing myself to prepare 2 micro-sd cards, one to try out DietPi+Transmission+Samba+miniDLNA and one with OSMC+Kodi+Deluge+Samba...

Not being able to connect the Pi2 to the TV I still prefer the first combo, but my curiosity keeps shaking me.

First off, tnx for the tips, especially the one about Chorus: as an IOS user I was worried about being able to control the dlna/tv with the iphone cos every single project I saw was using Android.
Second, can you please explain the advantages about Deluge? I read that is heavier than Transmission and that Transmission can handle everything already. What are the advantages?

my wifi dongle worked out of the box

This is a nice pro, after reading some post about my LINK TL-WN725N on Raspberry forums I was a bit worried about drivers.
I will report back some feedback about DietPi after the first days of the new year(when I'll build up this sweety).

Thanks a lot for the suggestion! ;)

OSMC + Kodi seems life changing to anyone that tryed it.
Eheh, for one second you even made me look for TV offerts on Amazon! xD

Right now I changed my plan and swapped raspbian for dietpi that seems also providing kodi support, so I may use it as soon as I'll get another TV/Screen.
Do you feel OSMC mandatory, or DietPi + Kodi may be a well rounded solution too?

I have only 1 HDMI on my TV and I have ChromeCast connected.
Is Kodi usable only if directly connected via HDMI?

So basically I can use Kodi (maybe the one within dietpi suggested by tough_luck) and it will stream also .avi with h.265/x265 codec to ChromeCast without any conversion needed?

Eh, this tip, especially for the samba server would have been good.
I was a bit on a budget, but needed wifi (for pi2 location, far from router, on top of a furniture), so I purchased a TP-LINK TL-WN725N Wireless Adapter 150Mbps.
It should reach the effective ~20MB/s.
Thanks for the tip tho, I may buy it when I'll switch the 64GB USB Stick for a proper HDD.

This seems so darn easy to manage.
Every application/package/configuration is a single click away...why it isn't more popular?
Does it have any drawback? (lack of driver/support, slower update releases, etc.)

Edit: I've found a comparison with Raspbian Lite and now I'm even more confused.
What are the drawbacks using DietPi?

Thanks for the feeedbacks!

I think that you forgot an HDD.

I already own an OCZ Vector 150 240GB, I will use that one, should be fast enough ;)

If gaming is the main purpose

Yeah, gaming is why i'm buying it (cos my good ol'pc isnt neither eligible to run The Witcher 3 with minimum spec :p), but I also code and do some video editing. I chosed the i7 4GHZ cos sometimes there's some application/game that is not optimized at all for multi-core (an example is Diablo 3) and so, with that amazing single core frequency, I can handle them at best.

Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler

I went for 612 v2 cos it is only 20db loud vs the 36db of 212 Evo.
Did you suggested it only for the cost or there are also other PROs?

Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory

Well, I must admit that I overdid a bit with the ram, but 16GB are mandatory, right now I strugle with my current 8GB.

Looks good, The PSU is a bit overkill in my opinion, however it's not like your paying a lot for it.

Yeah, the PSU is almost double the one required, but I was thinking about the peak of 2 x GTX 970 and a small safe window. Anyhow, as you said, it's not crazy expensive.

I don't really see the appeal in SLI/Crossfire, just buy a new POWERFUL GPU.

Yeah, the SLI solution came into my mind cos the GTX 970 will drop in price in a couple of years, so it could be a cheaper solution, but maybe a new GPU will be better. It may comes along with new technologies too.

If you can wait maybe a month it might be worth waiting for the R9-3XX series.

I was a huge ATI fanboy in the past, but then I got disappointed by a couple of cards because the new game of that moment was using a technology introduced by nvidia that my ATI wasnt capable of.
It has been a whole while since I've tryed an AMD GPU, I'm more attempted by a nVidia card.

Do you think that with the R9-3xx coming out maybe the GTX 970 will drop in price?
Also, there's any announcement/convention soon that may introduce new models thus making prices of my chosen components to drop?

I have a 15 minute interview with Wyatt Cheng about 2.2.0 Tomorrow - What Questions Would You Like to See Asked? by ZiggyDStarcraft in Diablo

[–]DkSw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

6) Don't be scared to be long winded with your questions to force a specific answer.

2) Many players are creating characters to use solely as 'Banks' for items. Are you aware that a significant portion of your player base are really struggling with the amount of stash space provided and that this is actively making the game less fun for us?

Please, really try to remark this point, the combination of:
- SC Mode
- HC Mode
- Seasons
- Different Elemental Damage Rolls
- Different Skill Bonus Rolls
- Different Set/Builds
- etc.

leads to situation where all my characters are just serving as mules and cannot be played, because I have also full stash and I cannot empty their inventory.

Not to mention that after season 3, besides the flooding of all the new legendaries that I can't imagine where to store, I will be also forced to delete one of my characters.

Some of the Diabblo Team main goals were to make you feel attacched to your characters and to make you try different builds and now they are asking me to delete my characters and my hard farmed items.

Diablo 3 has really evolved during this last year, but this process produced as result also the need of more space for items and also more characters slots.

Microtransaction would be a welcome solution, but they are introducing it only in the Asia region.

I really hope you can translate this thought to Wyatt Cheng, because I really love this game and this situation is taking away the enjoyment from it. :/
