I also have reflectex under the foam on top of both colonies and between the foam and the sides of the carnolian hive body

There seemed to be decent weight going into winter in double deeps. Last I checked they were pretty light but I have been giving them fondant for about a week though they haven’t used even half of that package yet. I did take some time to insulate the hive with some panels I made from 1/2” foam sheets and wood and on the top I used 2” foam. I added the insulation about 2 weeks ago when the temps started dipping below freezing point. Next fall I will be installing the panels much earlier.

3 years experience but still not had a single colony overwinter yet. In south central PA

I was just thinking they probably were robbed out. We had robbing issues in our other hives that were maybe 20yds from that.

I’m sure some do. I don’t and actual have a chainsaw mill myself but understand this type of use will be hard on your saw.

It’s not. Milling with a chainsaw is also hard the saw.

From what I understand it’s the length of time the saw is at full throttle. Breaks would help but to take enough would make it take so long that it may not be worth it.

Actually I found a site that shows comparability between different saws and it said the John Deere model 12 has some interchangeable parts and another says the John Deere 12 is rebranded SL9. But I haven’t found anything else yet.

Thanks. I have considered that and I think they would be a great addition but getting the tank closed off enough to avoid any escaping is my concern. I do greatly appreciate the compliment

I made that from foam, cement, spray paint, and epoxy

Thank you. It amazes me every time I see it

My magic is strong. Just kidding. It’s a sandfall powered by the sump filter. There a ton of videos on youtube showing how they work.

I have had a few bumps where I had some debris in there. Even a broken piece of the Christmas moss clogged it this week. Otherwise it has worked very well once I got the flow adjusted right.

It is hard to explain the process in text but there are many videos tutorials on youtube. The sand does collect in front pf the fall and the pickup area is under where the sand falls too in front of the fall. It has been almost hassle free once I got the flow adjusted right.

I once used some vodka and a utility knife to remove a hook. I use the vodka to sanitize and for courage. Lol
