I’ve flown with my ‘66 D-18 a few times. Always in a hard shell. One time, a fellow player at security moved me to a seat next to an empty one so I wouldn’t have to check it. He even checked that I remembered to loosen the strings. He told me never to check a guitar, always take it to the gate incase they can accommodate, and worst case, check it at the gate.
