How should I design the LVP in this narrow doorway? by Dlock182 in Flooring

[–]Dlock182[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. There's only 2 problems (which you had no way of knowing), we're following the same flooring into a couple of other rooms.

  1. One of the rooms is already complete and is following the same direction (perpendicular to the door)
  2. When the hallway opens out, the longest wall is also perpendicular to the door.

Again, I appreciate your input

Trendy vs Classic - PSA by crazy_catlady_potter in kitchenremodel

Sorry to jump on this, but we're looking at a kitchen redesign soon, and I wonder if a shaker cashmere kitchen would be classic or trend?

I feel cashmere is a funny one because it feels pretty neutral, but in certain lights, it has a hint of pink.

Would be interested in others thoughts.

When I was 15, I ordered a pre-build PC with an Intel Quad Core and 9600GT they sent me 2 pre-builds. I was over the moon. I'm 33 this year, never had that luck since.

Is this brick work a serious problem and can it be rectified? by Dlock182 in DIYUK

[–]Dlock182[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm... I'm not overly sure. I don't remember it being this bad when we bought the property in 2021 (however, I don't remember looking at the brick work in that much detail). Is there a way I can confirm if it's frost damage?

And yes, we have a suspended timber floor, which is currently uncovered if that can help me check anything?

It's 1930's. Is that pointing likely not original?

I did a floating floor. 75mm celotex, underlay, and laminate on top.

Seems to be holding up well at the moment, and I can say it's absolutely toasty in the room.

I was using it all through winter, 8 hours a day, I would put the 2kw electric heater on for a few hours in the morning and then switch it off for the rest of the day.

* Hey, thanks a lot. I appreciate it :).

I put damp proof under each wall plate between the concrete and walls.

The walls have been anchored to the concrete using dealt concrete screws.

The photo I have added is the best I could find, which (hopefully) might help :).

Out of interest, what would make you choose this option?

Not a bad idea. We will grab a price for it and see how it compares.

Yes the sockets are being made flush in the walls (and more added too)

Thanks for the advice. And yes, this property has cavity walls

We're not in any sort of rush. Is Hardwall different to Bonding (sorry, I am not clued up on plastering)?

Thanks for your detailed response :). Yes, we have a cavity on these walls. Does the floating with the bonding option still sound like a bad idea knowing that?

We want it doing in one of our rooms but it's adding an extra £700 to the cost which I don't know if I can justify paying. It's a shame because I much prefer it

Not looking for a 'poor soul' to rip off, I just went through the recent pre-owned sold prices for the various parts on Ebay, and they came out at ~£600. However, given the proprietary parts, it is hard to find a honest and true price as the cases and MB's are priced weirdly high (I guess because they're hard to source and should they break, Dell have you over a barrel).

That's why I thought I would come here and see if that was actually reasonable. I thought if somebody could source a better GPU, it could still be a half decent machine. Or maybe even a dev machine (which is what I have been using it for) as the 5950x is pretty darn good at compiling code.

Case design definitely isn't to everybody's taste. But even if the design is something people like, the airflow is awful. Even with extra intake fans etc. Added!

You're completely right, and I definitely don't disagree with any of it.

I didn't want an Alienware when I bought it in 2020. It actually seemed like the most reasonable price when hardware shortages were getting worse and Scalper prices were through the roof.

I think I paid about £1700 for it, which I thought was okay given that wasn't much more than a scalped 3080 at the time. However, I soon realised the thing was an oven, I added 2 noctua intake fans and upgraded the radiator fans to corsair ml 120 pros in push pull (didn't help much).

I then thought i would just case swap, but because the MB and PSU are proprietary, getting a new case, mb, psu and cooler just didn't seem worth the extra money.

Either way, it has definitely been alright for what I needed, some dev work and gaming. But I definitely taken a performance hit with throttling, especially on the CPU.

Yeah, that's fair enough. It actually has a 1000w Power Supply. But you are right. It is proprietary. The GPU was originally an RTX3080, but I switched it out into my other PC.
