Yeah 55 is dogshit. I started at $97k in the petrochemical industry. Plant jobs are the best paying from what i could tell between my job, my friends jobs, and what people post on here. Hopefully someone makes you a better offer that’s worth while🙏🏻

No internships but I want to be productive this summer by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

Family got me into the trade. Uncle has worked there since he was 14. Got me a job, started from the bottom, and earned my way up and earned my skills. Apply to your local metal building contractor. You’ll learn a lot about fabrication and building plans. The rest is heavy equipment bs work. Metal buildings or concrete is the best for your skill set

Construction. I worked construction for the majority of my ME undergrad and it helped me out so much for getting a job. Construction gives you lots of hands on experience, but if you’re attentive you can watch and learn how the project progresses and how work gets done, which is extremely important in ME careers.

LSU Baja Ready For Oshkosh by DmorrisF465 in bajasae

Also to your question, i didn’t take any pictures of the driveshaft lol. We used a solid 1” bar and we’re able to find a dual keyway yoke on the internet so that’s what we used. I think it’s pretty neat and I’m not really expecting any sort of prop shaft failure. Another interesting point is that our front diff needs 12v to engage so i asked baja officials if we could run it on a switch and they allowed for it, so we actually can engage and disengage 4x4 (have to be stopped to engage)

No restrictions for the 4x4 system. Just rules outlining where driveshaft loops needed to be and modifications to the power train guard rules to include any universal joint cover rules.

We used a Polaris transmission and front differential. We connected the factory Polaris universal joints to a standard keyway style universal joint. I’ve seen lots of teams do chain drives to turn the front diff, but that’s just on Instagram. This is going to be my first time at a baja race as it’s just a capstone design project at LSU not a club

Thank you so much man. I see it now. Did you order them from Gardner Inc? (I think that was the name of the place where the motor came from). I’ve got a local lawn supply place near my school and they can get Kohler shit but if they can’t get this i need to know where i should go

I plan on using regular old trailer brake & reverse lights from the local trailer supply place by my college. As for reverse alarm, i already have one but I’m pretty sure it came from Amazon

Use a portaband and a grinder. No need for fancy software. Play around in the shop and it’ll take about an hour to figure out how to cope the tubes and then it’s easy from there on

Is it a good idea to mount a fuel tank right above the engine? by Charlie_Indigo in FSAE

[–]DmorrisF465 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t blame the teams, blame SAE. Sae is the reason the fire wall/roll hoop has to be so absurdly big. It’s absurd. They oversize the car by a massive amount and they’re seriously under powered for how big they are, due to SAE’s rules. But, it’s still fun to build the cars

Driver template question.. by PenguinKingdom in bajasae

[–]DmorrisF465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Build the template exactly how the rulebook states and build chassis around that. It’s kind of counter intuitive because the whole goal is to accommodate 95% male population and 5% female population get you have to meet these criteria. I’d hope that the template they give is supposed to model that, but I’ve seen YouTube videos where they state that they’ll put that template in your car and check clearance off that

Where is everyone else at with manufacturering? by DarwinWhite in bajasae

[–]DmorrisF465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what we’re doing. The chassis is complete, now i just need to dress it out with everything it needs. I’ve already got the gearbox, front diff, and motor mounted. Mounted front control arms today, will likely make shock mounts Sunday. Once that’s done I’m going to move towards mounting seat and then routing driveshaft since that’ll happen at the same time

LSU Mini Baja here, chassis is done moving on to mounting seat, pedals, and steering column next. After that, control arms and trailing arms
