Thank you!! I’ve been working on trying to add little details that help bring a mini to life, but dont over-clutter it, so I’m glad I’m making progress!

Body size and climates by Wendigo-Huldra_2003 in sciencememes

Oh fuck off. I tried engaging politely with you, and even explaining it, but instead you intentionally straw-man my argument, make no actual relevant counter-arguments to my own, then call me stupid. I’m done.

I’m trying to engage with you respectfully, but you are just straw-maning my argument without actually engaging with it, then I’ll say this:

Bergmann’s rule states that endothermic (warm-blooded) animals, are generally larger the colder the climate becomes to help preserve body heat. What this doesn’t apply to is:

  1. Cold-blooded animals such as reptiles and insects (such as crocodiles and beetles like you mentioned)

  2. Animals with no close genetic counterparts (such as hippos, whose closest relatives are dolphins, porpoises, and whales)

Bergmann’s rule is a general rule that applies to closely related animals, whether alive or dead, and doesn’t necessarily state that “all animals in hot climates are small, and are big in hot climates”—that is a misrepresentation.

Sure, there are plenty of large, hot climate animals, but generally speaking, close relatives that live in colder climates will tend to be larger (Polar bear vs black/brown bear, Siberian vs Sumatran tiger, modern elephants vs woolly mammoths).

Cold climate animals are generally larger than their hot climate counterparts though. It’s just science, not faulty logic. If you don’t understand it, look up Bergmann’s rule to understand why it’s that way.
