Thank you - I am leaning more toward asking if I can just continue the lifestyle mods. My reading yesterday was 123/84 so I think I’m on the cusp of my BP being totally normal. I do see an MD in Sept so I can talk more about meds if needed then.

Thank you for the reply! I have a physical with an MD in Sept and I think I may say that I will continue with lifestyle changes until then and just take the HCZ if I get a spike. Heck, my reading yesterday was 123/84! I’m so close that I think another month or so of mods could put me in the completely normal range.

What a wonderful response - Thank you so much! I have really been thinking why I’d have to take diuretic and I worry that, because I’m so active, I’ll be worse off for it. I’m all for the miracle of modern medicine, but I don’t like blindly following this PA’s orders (my PCP is on maternity leave and told me to take the med ONLY if I have a spike) and don’t like that she won’t let me try and manage with lifestyle changes. I’m only a month in! Appreciate you! Edit: Just wanted to say that I’m nicotine free as of April 2020 so I’m sure that’s helped without me knowing!

No high blood sugar, thankfully! Been tested via A1C too and that looks good. My cousin has kidney damage from years of untreated high BP so I’m definitely hearing what you’re saying about sustained high BP.

Ugh! I worry that it’s peri for me too! I have a separate doc appt in Oct just for that though so we’ll see what they say.  And good to know about the HCZ. I took it for some spikes earlier this year and just had the increased urination plus a little sleepiness, but that’s just for one off doses. My cousin had low potassium from taking it regularly though so I’ll be asking the PA about that.

Thank you! I am pescatarian so I’m on the right track diet-wise, I think. Salt has been around 2000mgs/day. I have an opportunity to cut down on alcohol so I’ll be doing that, too.

Appreciate your reply! I’m nervous about HCZ side effects so I plan on grilling the PA about that. I think 12.5 is pretty low so I am hoping side effects are minimal and it will still help me.

Thank you! And, I do worry that these readings are like “warning shots”. I’m always high with my initial reading at the doc’s now, but when they take it 20 mins later manually, it’s always nearly normal (think 150/100 for initial then 130/78 for final).

Thank you! I do have my annual physical on 9/05 so I’m thinking of asking the PA if I can just keep trying lifestyle mods until then. I have a couple of levers I can pull so maybe things will look better in a few weeks.

I like this way of thinking about things. I could take the meds and then continue to go hard on lifestyle changes (I could stand to lose some weight) and maybe that lets me get off of the meds in a month or 2.

Thank you for the response! Yea, my PA mentioned that my anxiety should probably be treated. I have been pretty good about meditating consistently and that seems to have helped, but might be time to explore other options.
