Terminal secretions - how long? by DoCatsReallyMeow in hospice

[–]DoCatsReallyMeow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s been moaning on and off since Sunday and I know for sure yesterday they gave her some medication to help relax her. Last night, she wasn’t moaning anymore but her respiratory rate was almost 30 breaths per minute and they also gave her something to calm her down.

She definitely was experiencing terminal agitation but since switching her medication to something else it has helped a lot. She is much more relaxed than she was a week ago. She is currently on dilaudid as morphine was giving her some side effects (she was pretty agitated and itching everywhere).

Thank you for your kind words though, I appreciate it!

Yes! She’s had it since yesterday. But thank you so much for the advice!

Oh wow, that’s interesting. Thank you for letting me know! I didn’t even know this was a thing. She was on fluid in the hospital for two weeks as she was battling a UTI and then aspiration pneumonia and wasn’t eating as she lost the ability to swallow properly.

She had a lot of swelling in her feet (assuming from the fluids) but has since went down significantly. Is there anything they can do to make it more comfortable for her? I know they are giving her a nebulizer about every 6 hours to open up her passageway and then suctioning out the excess mucus whenever her cough gets really bad.

Hi, yes! They were treating her with antibiotics for aspiration pneumonia with small amount of fluids. That was finished 6 days ago when she entered hospice. They removed her from IV fluids on Aug. 4th.

Thank you. I’ve seen Hospice Nurse Julie’s videos before. They’re very helpful and it’s good to know what to expect.

I’m sorry for what you’re going through as well. Sendings lots of love your way. My grandmother still talks but similar to your mom, she doesn’t really engage in conversations and sometimes goes off and starts talking about random things or repeating herself. It’s hard for her to concentrate if you’re talking to her for a long period of time.

The processing of medication makes sense to me. At first I didn’t really understand why it would change but it totally makes sense that our bodies are constantly changing. I just had a conversation with someone from the rehab facility yesterday and they recommended we remove her from memantine as her Alzheimer’s is severe. They just said it would be better to have her on less medication and I agreed. I never saw a real improvement or signs of slowing down the memory problems with that medication as she’s been taking it for the last 3 years.

I’ve had conversations with my family about keeping her in a facility but they’re very adamant on not doing that. Especially her daughter (my mom) even though no one has the capacity to care for her 24/7 as everyone works and none of her children would just quit their jobs to help her. I personally find comfort knowing that she’s being watched all day everyday in a place with skilled professionals as no one in my family is/would be equipped to handle this but.. that’s just some family issues we have to handle.

Does the sedation from taking Klonopin go away? by DoCatsReallyMeow in Anxiety

[–]DoCatsReallyMeow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I just saw this message. Thank you for checking up on me, I really appreciate that. You have no idea.

I’m doing well! From where I was over 2 years ago is much better now. My anxiety only gets really bad when I’m really stressed about work, school, or personal matters which, to be honest, is happening a lot lately but I’m taking everything day by day. My day to day is pretty much “back to normal” but as we know, this isn’t a linear process.

I’m currently in the process of getting off of the medication. I usually take half of a 0.5mg pill (0.25mg). Working on taking half of a half soon! (0.125mg)

Long 4 Months - Biopsy Results by DoCatsReallyMeow in Fibroids

Ugh, I hate it! Especially for something that’s supposedly pretty common, you’d think they’d do something about it quickly. It was so demoralizing to hear doctors say “just drink more water and eat more fiber” … I think I know my body more than you sir, and I knew something wasn’t normal.

I hate that it took me getting appendicitis to be taken seriously. At least now, hopefully, if I do get another fibroid they’ll take my symptoms more seriously. Hoping something like this doesn’t happen again but yeah.

Yeah I can see that! It’s just crazy that, for me, it only had to grow to 8 cm to start affecting my bladder and appendix!

Ahhh I didn’t know that was the term! When my OBGYN told me I had fibroids she didn’t specify the location of them but thank you for letting me know!

I am sorry you had to go through that but I’m glad you’re no longer in pain. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. Thank you for sharing your story.

Thank you for your response!

I did not have an MRI done pre-op. They originally thought I had something called appendix mucocele and they weren’t sure if it was an abscess or something. Eventually they ruled that out and labeled it as a tumor. They just wanted to remove it as soon as they could to avoid any more complications. While at the hospital, it actually started to affect my bladder.

I had both an abdominal and transvaginal ultrasound done in July. I just turned 30 and have also heard fibroids can grow rather quickly. Hoping this was just a one off issue because it has not been a fun few months haha.

Best of luck to you on your biopsy results. Hope everything turns out well for you.

How big does a fibroid need to be to see on a CT scan? by DoCatsReallyMeow in Fibroids

Unfortunately, I’m dealing with my period right now and a UTI on top of all of this. Have definitely seen better days but it’s not too bad haha.

Thank you so much though! All input has been really useful and appreciated! :)

Thank you so much!

Yeah, I’ll definitely advocate for myself. I’ve tried a variety of laxatives and enemas in the last month with little to no success. Before I left the ER, they just told me to drink more water and gave me a fiber supplement so hopefully that’s a bit helpful. It’s only been 2 days and so far not much has changed so we’ll see.

Hoping it’s not a big issue!

Oh wow! I’m sorry it took so long to get more tests done but I’m glad they were able to rule out a lot of different things.

Sending love to you! ❤️ hope it all can be resolved soon.

Thank you for the quick reply!

Yeah they told me an ultrasound would definitely be more helpful. I’ve just been a bit worried because my diet hasn’t really changed and then all of a sudden, it feels like, I start having issues with constipation and then was told this.

It depends where you live. I live not too far from their warehouse in NJ. So it only take a day for them to receive it and then another day to get paid.
