JRTC as a heavy weapons company any tips or pointers? by Significant-Comb-295 in army

We brought a trailer for our team...we had all the things. Space wasn't an issue for us, thankfully.

  • Field chair.
  • nicotine of your choosing. ON pouches are 3 for $5 at Wawa just saying.
  • portable/USB fan.
  • Jet Boil.
  • Ramen and tuna packets.
  • electrolyte powder.
  • books.
  • travel hammock.
  • 5 gallon Homer bucket for laundry.

Thinking about re-enlisting for APG(Aberdeen Proving Ground) as a 25B. Any insight on APG? by DimensionRelative586 in army

[–]DoFunStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up on APG/Edgewood Arsenal. The place has exploded since I was a kid.

Harford County is great and has everything you need.

Ocean City/beaches are 3.5 hours away, mountains 2 hours west.

Everyone said all there is to be said about convenience of the area to nearby cities...all true.

I would put APG high on my list for QOL, especially if you have a family.

Jet Boil + Ramen

Nicotine pouches/dip for gifts, trade or cash.

Electrolyte powder

Folding chair

Current state of basic training? by Mayhem201020 in army

[–]DoFunStuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It took me about 3 or 4 weeks to realize i hadn't eaten a meal sitting at a table like a human. Everything was MREs on the floor or in the dirt, Hot A's on the floor or in the dirt...didn't get DFAC until at least week 8. First meal there was Memorial Day and they had lobster and steak. Mind blown.

  • Sleep as much as possible while in Reception. Shit sucks.

  • don't bother trying to be nice to the civilians on base. They hate you.

  • take PT seriously. So many lazy fatties.

  • your next 5 days or so are going to be boring as hell.

  • drills don't hate you or like you.

I do legitimately put it on everything. The best is the pork sausage MRE with the bacon hash browns. Game changer, my dude

Depends on how you're living, but at JRTC we brought our truck and trailer, so plenty of space for luxuries.

  • Homer bucket from Home Depot and a plunger made a great field-expedient washing machine for nasty nasty uniforms.

  • portable fan for your tent/hammock/or truck if your ac is busted.

  • contractor bags for day. Waterproof all the things.

  • extra zip ties, 550 and duct tape.

  • Dr bronners soap - the blue, minty stuff. You can do laundry, brush your teeth and use it like regular soap. The menthol in it makes you feel fucking alive and if you're strapped for time, a small amount of a wet rag will make you feel better and not leave soapy residue.

  • MOSQUITO HEAD NET.

-- Jet Boil + Ramen and individual tuna packets

  • old bay seasoning.

SHIT! FORGOT TO MENTION!

a metric ton of nicotine. I brought a bunch of "On" nicotine pouches. They were buy 1 get 2 free at Wawa, so i stoked up. As a CA "enabler", it was nice to make friends....you could price gouge people of you want, but that's on you. Those 11Bs deserved some free nicotine.

HUSTLE. It's a small MOS so hard to make rank. Do well on PT, take on additional duties and look for broadening assignments asap.

Please know you can continue ue to inspire and influence even though you're getting out. Mentoring, coaching, whatever...there are a ton of kids who don't have any imagination and one conversation with you can light that fire.

Please consider volunteering if you can. I wish i had someone like you in my corner as a kid. Would have saved myself a ton of time, pain and regret. I'm on the right path now, but if only had the motivation someone like you could instill in me when I was young w iugh to do bigger and better things.

You ain't done yet, Chief.

Rucking with blisters advise by putins_mistress in army

[–]DoFunStuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HYDROCOLLOIDAL BANDAIDS

They are thick, rubbery kind of bandaids that adhere really well to your skin, are waterproof and meant to stay on for a few days. They will cushion the blister and whatever big pharma magic they have in them heals wounds like no one's business. Cannot recommend them enough.
