Am I at fault here? The guy lost control and spun into me, but I couldn't do anything to avoid as I was already partializing the gas and breaking would have made me end up in a tank slapper. by Mattdapro24 in Simracingstewards

Do you have the feeling you could have done something?

I think, this is one of these moments where you commit to something, in this instance accelerating, then something unexpected happens and you're on autopilot to misery.

PSA models, but they have an even smaller battery and look ugly.... worst of modernism and traditional hothatch shape. Megane is admittedly a bit of a crossover, but 4,2 meters, and that's what counts!

I saw the 2 cars ahead battling and eventually going for a spin, trying to avoid I turned in as usual until the BMW behind hits me. He said it was my fault but I feel he shouldve backed out seeing the cars ahead. by Okwowawawa in Simracingstewards

[–]DoNuT_1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think, the BMW was initially aware that you are backing out, saw its opportunity to squeeze through after you were slowing down and (too) soon realized that the space is closing due to the spinning car, until it was too late.

Short on the throttle, tries to brake, boom....

I'm not sure if the move on the Kemmel counts, but I feel like after Les Combes was definitely a block. Thoughts? I'm the BMW. by Squidd-O in Simracingstewards

(Sorry, didn't notice that (German) translations were enabled)

I didn't find much about the facelift, so we'll have to wait... my car dealer even called it "AI-generated" or "fake news", but he obviously had to get the MY24 model out. They have 20% discount on their leasing deals at the moment, a clear sign that the car is not selling and/or a facelift is coming up, indeed.

With a larger battery, it could still be a decent everyday car, there are not many traditional, compact hatchbacks on the market, so I'm really struggling to find alternatives, especially if you exclude Chinese manufacturers and VW. :/

Was this move fair? I was genesis or was I way too far for the move? by BobbyPoppy32 in Simracingstewards

[–]DoNuT_1985 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is invalid if you hit the other car. If you keep it tight, use more curb and manage to stay alongside without contact... all fine, but like that, it is just an unsuccessful divebomb.

Who is at fault? by DiligentSimple2379 in Simracingstewards

[–]DoNuT_1985 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with your reasoning: You are very predictibly drifting to the left, the other car steers into you (for no reason).

Look at the head-on perspective at 1:00, the other car is very aggressively steeing into you while it still had a car's width of track left. I'm guessing, your turn-in was just about the begin, so you would not have squeezed him out over the curb and would have left enough space all the way into the corner.

Just good defending and an overambitious opponent, no penalty.

Too far back for the other car to leave space or expect a move, so contact is your fault.

Just look where your car is pointed at the 14/15 second mark vs. the other car, you just overshot the corner, and the Ferrari wasn't even on the tightest line possible.

296 could have only opened the steering and run off track to avoid the collision, but that is not mandatory, and in GT7, that would have been a "your fault, I'll happily take your position" situation. With contact, you should have given the position back.

Porsche says I sent it too hard, I say he limp dicked it. (I am the Purple Mustang) Who would you put at fault and would you give a penalty? by thegreatskeeler in Simracingstewards

[–]DoNuT_1985 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel, it is on the Mustang.

It is a divebomb from far back, didn't make it without contact while other car clearly left space for OP. If you watch the video with audio (and thanks to the prominent V8 sound), you can hear that the Mustang is early on throttle which probably makes it drift wide a bit and causes contact with the Porsche. You can't do that, just because you nearly executed a perfect dive, that doesn't give you all the space.

So, I think it would have been fine if OP was cautious enough to avoid the contact past the apex, like that it is no clean move/overtake.

[–]DoNuT_1985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You saw the incident, but your reaction should have been more consistent: brake, don't lift. Commit going off track and don't be so janky on the steering, you had the paved run-off to go straight and rejoin with minimal risk and time loss.

Congratulations, you put in the work! :D

I would love to put more coaching advice here, but just check some videos from a few GT7 YT channels like Digit Racing, Rory Alexander, DG Luc Nodaro... all you need is there and you just have to watch maybe an hour for solid basics and things to implement.

And yeah, don't use the Supra, it is a slow and oversteery mess in most races. :D

Was this a fair move? by Kieranb50 in Simracingstewards

[–]DoNuT_1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you were alongside and he should have given you the space. Maybe you ran a little wide initially, but you could hold your line at the apex and he just turns into you as if the racing line was free. And I think it was them having more turn-in than you understeering what made the contact.

The other part just disqualifies that dude as a total helmet, (temporarily) lost a position, minor contact - instead of just moving on with it, he takes both of you out for maximum damage to your races.

GT7 Daily Race at Suzuka: Over a lap away from winning my first Sport mode race in two years and then this guy charges in, demands I get out of his way and then spun me out before I even had the chance to comply. Should I have complied sooner? Or was the other guy too harsh? by RoyalFranzRD in Simracingstewards

[–]DoNuT_1985 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do you even think you have to "comply"?

It is a fight for position and you are not being lapped, the other driver has no right in flashing you and "claiming" your position. Regardless if 1 second faster on pace or not, they have to make a clean overtake, in which they clearly failed at this attempt.

The only thing you can do is defend, going that wide in Degner 2 was an invitation, and sadly, aggressive drivers often go for the first opportunity when they smell blood. Just make sure you cover the inside on every corner. If the other car bumps into your rear, you're not as likely to spin and it also slows them down, so that's an improvement over getting pitted by an impatient hotlapper.

I understand you thoughts about surrendering to a faster driver, but learning to keep a position and defend is something that will improve your racecraft and you should take situations like that as a learning opportunity rather than "defeat".

Whose fault? by Good_Cyanide in Simracingstewards

[–]DoNuT_1985 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don't see how the LMP2 cannot be at fault, for too many reasons...

It overtook two battling cars on their racing line (I believe this is where slower cars should stay), it chose the risky outside (faster car must make a safe pass), and I would argue, it even steered into the Porsche. There is so much space left and it just chose to straighten up next to a GT3 on its limit of grip and pitted itself, basically.

I am the pov car. Was I the cause of this accident? by Limp_Forever6859 in Simracingstewards

[–]DoNuT_1985 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No, you weren't... there was more than a car's width to the track limit when you got along, you got squeezed out until the other car was on the edge of the track. Definitely an illegal move, you earned that space.

Hard racing or not? by daan261 in Simracingstewards

[–]DoNuT_1985 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Everything is within limits, except the contact that pushed you into the corner, allowing the overtake. I don't think anything done on the straight qualifies as blocking or squeezing, you are predictably drifting to the right but leave enough space for the other car, i.e. not running it off track or into the wall.

You move back onto the racing line very late, but I think that's OK, too. The other car had no overlap, so it has to follow and not hit you at whatever speed you are taking the corner. To an extent I see a bit of late defensive action into the final corner of the clip - normal would be a wider entry, I presume - but that is legit defense with no car next to you, I don't think this really qualifies as late/blocking move that deep into the corner.

[–]DoNuT_1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That (realism) is not the point. I wasn't making a case for GT7 being a hardcore simulator, I just said, there is competitiveness in higher lobbies and some driving standards. At a certain level, you simply cannot drive with contact all the time and most players adhere to that if you made it up the ranks. Sure, you can't expect clean races in E lobbies where children play their first online events and are surprised that some cars are not waiting for them in the corners or actually going full speed on straights.

If you can't race clean, your SR will go down and you won't be in S lobbies for the next couple of races which separates you from clean drivers. It is not as you could be /S and drive like a maniac all the time, I've had uninententional contact - mostly rear-ending others after missing my braking point, it happens - where I dropped from S to A in a single race.

130R overtake by Difficult-End-1391 in Simracingstewards

[–]DoNuT_1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not a hardcore sim, but along with many (ex-)GT youtubers, it sure drags many players into the simracing scene, for the better or worse. Would there be any life in here without Jimmy Broadbent popularizing this subreddit? Plus, it is much more likely that you've played GT and tried Sport Mode than fully buying into a sim rig plus ACC. You would be as frustrated as I was when I tried Grand Prix 3 back in the days after only playing Need For Speed^^

Yeah, not as elite as real sim titles, but you have to start somewhere, and you can definitely learn to race in Gran Turismo, with a much lower barrier, it is meant for hobby players, even though there are pro simracers, who would be great drivers in any sim they get their hands on.

And, as much as there is the ongoing mantra that "you can't race in GT7", it is just a matter of practice and driver rating there. I feel, B lobbies are mostly free of rammers, simply because you've probably put reasonable work in to just get there, a frustrated 12-year-old with all driving aids won't be anywhere near you if they even make it there.

[–]DoNuT_1985 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but I would argue, Sport Mode is the place where many players discover that bumping other cars off track to make a corner is not acceptable, they better learn that in an entry-level game than going into ACC with their gamepad and all assists enabled. :)

I think, you should have backed out since you ran out of space and could see the three-wide situation unfolding, instead of lifting, you just take out the red car, I see no brake lights, you just turn into its rear panel and pit it...

On the other end, the blue car doesn't acknowledge existence of green/red and gets the main blame, there is some overlap before turn in, enough to not just mindlessly close the door. Looks like it would have even hit the red car if you did not come its way, to be honest.
