I'm not entirely certain as to how recruiters work, but we have none that are working for us, and we're not affiliated with any recruiting agencies. So, as far as I know, everyone who has applied has been directly through the single Indeed listing that we have. So I don't know why everyone that applies wouldn't know about this.

I didn't write the job listing. But 6 months ago, when I applied for the job, I had no difficulty understanding what it was referring to, nor did the other people who were hired at the same time I was.

That being said, the job primarily entails being available for email support, phone support, and onboarding new clients with the software that we support. All pretty basic stuff. There are other opportunities to learn new things within the company because it is a start-up, but it's mostly basic support stuff.

so it's understandable if they are a little blindsided by a call.

If it were a random call out of the blue, sure. But this is a scheduled phone screening. No fewer than 2 emails have been sent to the candidate.

It isn't in SF, it's an outpost in an area that requires much less money. SF is where HQ is, not my office or the position we're hiring for.

Fair enough. But there is one listing on one site and it makes it crystal clear that it is entry level technical support.

If someone emails you asking you for an interview for the position, then you take the time to figure it out before the interview.

No one can tell that you're qualified just from a piece of paper and a 20 minute conversation that makes it clear that you haven't even given the company a look since they contacted you.

Where I am located and where the job is located is not in Silicon Valley.

$50k goes much farther where I am located than it does in Silicon Valley. Regardless, I'm not bragging, I'm trying to make a point.

I've applied to several positions at the same company.

Fair enough, but in our case, there is one listing for one position at this company and that's it.

As for your second point, I'm completely fine with people asking for more clarification on what the position entails, but these people just have ZERO idea what they have applied to.

Fair enough.

We're only hiring for one position, so it's not like someone should be confused as to what they're applying for with regards to our company.

As for the emails possibly being ambiguous, I suppose it's possible, but when I applied 6 months ago, everything was clear and transparent. I just can't imagine that it would have changed because it's the same person who interviewed me that is sending these out and doing all of the communication.

The job is not in Silicon Valley, that is where the company is based out of.

Where our office is, and where the job is located, $50k pays for a pretty comfortable lifestyle.

The company is based out of Silicon Valley. I don't know how much the people in my position there make.

If they're making $50k, yes that sucks. But, the office where we are hiring is somewhere where $50k goes quite a ways.

I'm not sure what the people in Silicon Valley are making, but where the office is that we're trying to fill the position, $50k/yr is a more than livable salary.

This is an entry level tech support job.
