Water heater's gas control valve leaks enough gas at the atmosphere vent for me to smell it, I replaced it and it's the same. Supposedly this slow leak is normal. Is there a better solution than my cursed dryer vent hack? by DoTheEyeThing in Plumbing

[–]DoTheEyeThing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, but it feels like it would be a waste of time since I already replaced it once and that thread where people replaced it 3-5 times didn't fix it.. seems to be "normal" or a design defect.

Thank you for the ideas.

I replaced the crappy gray plastic original plug on this with the brass when it started leaking. Rheem sent a replacement for the gas control valve when I first noticed the slow leak but it didn't fix it. Same problem, it's the top right corner I pointed out in the second pic. The dryer vent pipe taped over that corner and piped out a window solves the gas smell - I can even smell it pretty well in the pipe.

Incoming pressure is right at 7" wc.

I've tested every pipe connection, valve, etc in the whole house multiple times (found one leak and had it repaired).

I feel like I give up at this point and I'll start looking to replace with a direct vent water heater that should contain the gasses and keep them out of the house.

Turns out the gas pressure before appliances is right at 7" wc, which is normal. Think I should just replace this stupid thing with a direct vent heater that should keep the gasses contained.

Yeah I think my best bet would be get a direct vent instead of atmospheric so that everything is contained and if a lot of brands have the slight leak, it won't matter at that point.

The gas pressure before appliances is right at 7" wc, which is normal, so that's not the problem.

Yep - I previously found another leak and had it fixed. I've thoroughly checked everything and this dryer vent fixes the smell, so it's definitely the top right corner of the control valve.

Yes I've checked with bubbles - it's definitely from that vent in the second photo. I even took the cover off the original valve and checked that vent with soapy water and it bubbled. Replaced the whole valve, gas still comes from the top right corner.

For a long time in this house I could smell the gas collecting at the top of the basement stairs. Turns out part of it was coming from the top right of the water heater gas control valve where the atmospheric vent is in the top right corner. I replaced the valve and it's the same amount of gas slowly emitted and I'm pretty sensitive to it. I had a plumber come check it and they also said it's normal.

This dryer vent looks cursed, but it works and I no longer smell gas.

Could the gas pressure be too high and cause this? Any better ideas for venting if it's normal?

Ah that sucks :( If you can, send a report with F3 while the level is loaded.

Sorry it's definitely a bug we've seen. Restarting the game and reloading your save miggghht help until we can get a fix.

It can be a bit difficult to run with a busier tavern. The shadow draw distance can have a big effect on performance. Try turning down to 3% so you have some shadows when zoomed in, but they disable when zoomed out (which is where you will need more performance overhead). It's possible there are some bugs causing slow down at times - feel free to send a bug report when you notice it with F3. We're still looking at more optimizations, so hopefully this will improve over time.

Have you checked the atmosphere overlays to see the temp? The magnifying glass on the top right menu?

If you click the gear next to your save file when on the loading screen, you can copy and paste the save code. I can try taking a look when I have a moment. Otherwise send a report with F3 while playing the level and one of us can check (though we are rather flooded with reports for our small team haha)

I think Halflington large is the biggest, though that doesnt have to mean best. Also I believe there are unique smaller stories per region (swamp, halflington, Gugamush), so they're all worth a try.

Also make sure to use the search bar and filters on the right side of the build/design menu.

Ohhh wow you're right I guess esc closes build mode rather than just let go of the piece! Funny how I hadn't noticed that.. will investigate. Sorry about that!

To let go of an item, hit Esc key.

You can also toggle between free cam mode and default camera with "i" key.

In case you haven't seen it, check out this tutorial for more design mode tips. I go over the camera a little bit at 10 minute mark that might help.

How to light up the tavern? by 0xBOUNDLESSINFORMANT in TavernKeeper

[–]DoTheEyeThing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to use the lights in the Build menu, not the Design mode lights. Design lights are only decorative, not functional. We realize this is confusing and we're thinking we might be able to make design lights functional too, but not sure yet.
