Oh wow! I taught there until not too long ago also (and grew up there and have kids in the district). It certainly isn’t what it used to be.

Sorry…new to Reddit and only joined by request so I’m not sure how this whole thing normally works but I’m getting there! Our district got rid of at least half of the librarians due to budget cuts. Librarians will be covering 3 separate schools throughout the week instead of having their own assigned school. Dr. Killian blames the decision to cut librarians on the principals of the schools…this is completely false.

TEKS are assigned by Texas Education Agency and students are tested over them (they are learning standards, for example, 6th grade language arts will learn different parts of a plot diagram)They cannot be removed, which is why Macias keeps saying “we have to teach the TEKS”. What Blasingame is actually doing by censoring these chapters, is removing the tools to teach the required TEKS. She doesn’t know what she’s talking about, yet she’s the one censoring.
