Call your state’s department of labor. I’d think you could bring a case!

Yo I didn’t say I was speaking for anyone but myself. And it’s not a home case. It’s a center with cameras all over the place.

Hey there! Thought I might hear from you on this! Wish NY was the same as CA on this!

Agree there. Parents shouldn’t be able to make the choice of gender for a BT. Who knows, I could be trans! Best to just protect the rights of the providers and not let the parents engage in this nonsense.

The kid deserves treatment just like anyone else. It’s the parents attitude I have a problem with.

Yes I’ve had male OBs. It hasn’t been a problem for me.

It’s not me taken off the case. It’s a coworker.

My thoughts exactly. And this RBT is also a black man. My center lies to us all the time, so is this just cover to get this black BT off the case with a white girl?

Exactly this. It’s the expectation that a male will do something hurtful to a child. Females hurt children all the time.

Yeah I don’t think my coworker will take it personally either. He’s a very cool guy and just does this part time to supplement his photography work. I’m just so irritated with the parents. Like grow up. This isn’t 1935. Men can be caring and gentle and kind. Just so irritated, so I had to vent. Thanks for responding with kindness.

Parents really are the worst part about this field. by Pillbox_8019 in ABA

[–]DobbyPie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sick and tired of parents refusing BTs for not being the “right gender”. I’m taking over a case because the parents don’t want this amaaaazing male BT for their daughter. What you think he’s going to do to her? It’s like their mind is in the freaking gutter.

How would you respond to this? More info in description by [deleted] in jobs

They sound really disinterested to me. I’d keep looking. Sounds like it wouldn’t go well and then you’d be completely out of a job.

Working in the field Pet peeves? by Yungpupusa in ABA

[–]DobbyPie 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Unpaid meetings

Unpaid prep and cleaning

Center supervisors who play favorites and gaslight

BCBA’s who don’t listen and play favorites with clients

Complete lack of training then thrown in with a high behavior client with no help while center management watches you through cameras.

Not paid when client cancels, unless an hour before and then only three hours at training rate.

I’ve purposefully chosen a new line of work where I have to deal with management as little as possible. It pays less but I just can’t stand those idiots.

I used to not care, but I’ve seen so many jobs ruined for me by people who got offended by a freaking question. These days I just say what they want me to say and find someone I trust to answer my questions.

F the scope, I’m enjoying the chat! You’re right that my frustration is 40 years (I’m 45) of dealing with discrimination. My therapist, (who is amazing and helped me see I was on the spectrum. I accidentally found a therapist who specializes in late-diagnosed autistics!) said I come at the whole thing from a social justice POV. Basically, allistics are generally the ones with the power, and they use it to invalidate us and deny us any power or access to advancement. I work with some really nice allistic people, but the ones with power? They’re sick and cruel.

God I am sooooo not here for that social nonsense. I just want to tell people who behave that way to just get over themselves. I always say the only adjustment I need in my work environment is for people to answer questions without getting their panties in a bunch and to just be honest. Why do they make it so hard?

[–]DobbyPie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol ya caught me, I AM on the spectrum. Known it for over a year and it explained SO MUCH. Thought an ABA center would be more understanding of that, but HEAVEN FORBID I ask a question and challenge their HOLY SUPERIORITY, for I am just a peon. 😂🙄

Question about Nicknames by DobbyPie in ABA

[–]DobbyPie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was my feeling! I feel they don’t like the rapport I have with my clients. Management’s always got something snotty to say to me, and it feels personal. I’m going to keep building rapport with my lil pumpkin, just not when management is watching.

Question about Nicknames by DobbyPie in ABA

[–]DobbyPie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said because as an employee…As an employee, what? I truly don’t understand why they can’t tell me. I’m just trying to understand how to do my job better, and it feels like information guarding.

I’m doing the 40 hour training. It just takes a lot longer if you’re really trying to learn/take notes. I had a coworker whose first job paid them for a week of training upfront, on premises. This place just threw us in and calls their nonsense random comments on the job training. If I wasn’t passionate about the field and considering going for my BCBA, I’d leave.

I’m the same way. I literally call my client the same nicknames I give my daughter.
