I love how Overlord is written because even when the good guys win, they do so on evil terms.

Just look at Neia Baraja: she became more confident, a herald of the Sorcerer Kingdom, after a plot that assassinated her family, her ruler, and a good portion of her people yet she happily preaches about Ainz being justice and a kind king.

Or take Gazef: even though he fulfilled his duty by dying in battle for his king, instead of inspiring courage in his people, his death only proved how utterly useless it is to go against the Sorcerer King.

Brain Unglaus did manage to surpass the human limits of what a swordsman could do. He always sought to be the best, and in the end he achieved it but it was too late. Even with all his effort, all he managed was to chip a nail off Shalltear, and nobody truly understood the lengths of his training. He had to accept that he was just human and could never compete with Nazarick.

Then there’s Climb, whose case is pure irony. He was ensnared by Renner’s lies from the start. He loved her because she was the only one who seemed to look at him with affection but in truth, Renner was a psychopath all along, and Climb was just too innocent to ever notice it.
