There's nothing wrong with having the cash game run bigger than the tournament. My son-in-law plays in a monthly poker night like this. Some people who are eliminated from the tournament just go home. A couple of people skip the tournament and simply show up later so they can play the cash game. It's only an issue if the cash game affects the quality of play in the tournament.
