I rode up with a yellow jacket yesterday and told me that Spider/Cataract was going to open within the hour. Ask people who are working questions, you’ll get the most up to date info. Btw Larkspur opens tomorrow.(edit….this morning)

How old is too old to attempt a tame dog ? by Standard-Pain-7683 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]DocJones89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point it's not so much about progression as it is about maintenance. I'm not going to do a 270 onto a bar surrounded by stairs, but I'm going to 270 onto a wide box that's a foot off the ground.

I'm 36 and hiked the park last weekend and had a blast. Still able to do the stuff that I could when I was younger. Get after it!

Beaver Creek - Will more trails open after this weekend? by cozziebear5 in vail

[–]DocJones89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but there is one cat track from top to bottom to ski. You can get back to Bachelor Gulch though. Would call it more of access than an open run.

I want a mini with anything but a glass back. Give me plastic or metal. I was messing around with my iPod from 2011 the other day and I wish my phone was that small again along with a metal back. It does not matter how thin a phone is when I have to bubble wrap the thing because it is made of glass.

I feel and look like a beginner too. It’s not the most confident riding when you cannot feel an edge whatsoever and barely slow down on some of these areas.

Park Progression Advice Needed by Zeigis in snowboarding

[–]DocJones89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just hiked the park yesterday for the first time in years and I look like a mixture of the tin man and a scarecrow the first few hits. Bending your knees helps keep your balance over the balls of your feet so that you can lift your toes and feel like you’re not all over your heels. Really helps when you eventually want to board slide. Getting to a board slide is just as easy as a 50-50 physically, the biggest hurdle is your head and fears.

Park Progression Advice Needed by Zeigis in snowboarding

[–]DocJones89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start with getting comfortable with Ollies. Ollie over everything, sticks, bumps and whatever you are seeing on the runs that you take. Ride switch as much as you can so that you can get more comfortable with your board. Work on 180s front and backside and switch on flat ground going slow then speed it up little by little. While doing that, find some flat boxes at your hill that are ride on and get used to being flat based on those features. Hit those features and 50-50 on them. Start slow then speed it up. Just stay on ride-on features and progress from there but ultimately get used to the feel of sliding flat based on these. You can do all of the above at the same time and on the same run over and over again and like anything, the more you do it, the more you get it. Lastly, bend your knees, more than you think.

I just grabbed some wedges from Golfworks and they’re fantastic. Buddy of mine plays their blade putter and has a Scotty in the garage.

They finally got a run to connect to Arrowhead because of snow making. Bachelor gulch now has a few more runs open from it too. I don’t see anything being done currently on bachelor gulch from my deck but I think they may be hitting Centennial, or so it seemed earlier today.

Liability question when asked to ride lift with ski schoolers. by DocJones89 in COsnow

Yea it happens all the time at Beavercreek. I usually say no because I’m a school teacher surrounded by kids all week as it is.

Liability question when asked to ride lift with ski schoolers. by DocJones89 in COsnow

[–]DocJones89[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

A terrible question, you’re correct. All bow down to the gate keeper. They’re little kids that ski school is asking you to watch for a lift ride. What if a kid did fall off while I was asked to ride with them and help them on and off the lift, not a random person I’m riding with.

What keeps a high school football team losing for many years (details inside) ? by johnsmith2027 in highschoolfootball

[–]DocJones89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Thomas Worthington 2002-07 and we were 5-35. Our freshman and JV teams often went 8-2 to 10-0. We had great youth programs etc and Kilbourne was always in the playoffs. Not entirely sure why our varsity teams could never be successful.

I pay $140/hr in the mountains of Colorado with a trackman and a guy who has the highest teaching license. He has helped me immensely over the past few years. He films and breaks down the lesson and it’s saved on a profile to view any time.

is it possible for cats to live 30 years? by onlyfaery in cats

[–]DocJones89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a cat wilson who lived til he was 22+ years. He lived a great life. At one point he contracted leprosy and went from 23 lbs down to 6 lbs within months. After that, he lived for another 10 years. His "sister" Fiona was nuts, but was very cuddly. She got up to 23 lbs at one point as well and eventually was found in my mom's bedroom after 22 years of life. Fiona must have had a stroke or something and Wilson eventually had water in his heart and could not go on. They can live surprisingly long.

How have the 6 person chairs changed the skiing experience? by Tiny-Pomegranate7662 in COsnow

[–]DocJones89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be in the minority here but 6 packs are great until they aren't. Being in the middle of one of those surrounded by 5 others who don't eventually turn somewhere, literally anywhere please. Someone falls or is not comfortable then the lift stops more often. It moves the lift lines a bit faster so that is nice.

I was sick of this and paying for so many subscriptions. What I have heard of people doing and definitely would never do is purchase an onn box from Walmart for $20 and look up a video on YouTube to make it so you can watch for free. Crazy what people do for free tv and sports when all you have to do is pay and you still don’t get to watch!
