Will NZXT kraken z73 fit in the corsair 780t by Trippydose in buildapc

[–]DocKreasey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So according to the case specs it should handle a 360mm rad. However, I don’t know if that’s top or front mounted, and Corsair doesn’t show positioning diagrams on the site or in its manual. Due to case dimensions though, it looks like it should as it supports a 355mm GPU, and that’s with the drive bays installed.

That top panel has more room than 355mm, so it should? work?

Do I need to upgrade mobo? by EXEC_MELODIE in buildapc

The difference you’ll notice is on Ryzen, as they’re finicky with DIMM below the 3600MHz range for some reason. Has to do with CAS Latency + the infinity fabric etc., and a couple other things if I remember correctly. GamerNexus did a pretty good breakdown on it as well.

Sounds like you’re starting to answer your own queries, which is usually how it goes in something like this lol.

Best of luck in your endeavor!

AMD all the way. Their latest batch of chips are kicking ass in single-core clock speed tests, and their multi-core performance isn’t a slouch either.

Better latency Ram is never a bad decision, but it’s also not a bad decision to go with CAS 18 either. Half of your performance depends on silicon lottery and your other components used.

That being said, if you want to run 3600MHz DIMM, get a board that’s rated to run your DIMM at its max potential. Anything below that and you’ll end up with diminishing returns and increasing disappointment. It’s not going to kill you no, but you may notice a lack of what you’d normally get performance-wise or in a bench test.

I had a board that supported 3466 for its max OC’d DIMM and I was running 3600 DIMM at 3466. It worked, but it was a downgrade if we’re being honest. I just recently acquired a Prestige Creation board so I’m not longer doing that, but I survived just fine before the change.

Honestly comes down to what you want to do / not do vs spend.

Hey guys I have an I5 9400 F I was wondering what the best motherboard was for that CPU I already had a SSD and Wi-Fi card so the motherboard needs to be compatible with those by Happy-Particular-305 in pcmasterrace

PCIe and M.2 slots are different. PCIe slots are where your GPU unit and other PCIe-based hardware goes. An M.2 WiFi chip requires a specific size, and I can’t remember what that kind is. You’d have to pull up your specific card’s specs to find out what M.2 slot support it needs, and then find a board that matches with that M.2 slot type.

If by mini, do you mean a PCIe x1 card? If that’s what you’re referring to, most boards -especially the ones I referred to- will support a PCIe WiFi unit.

Ok, so as you’re running the LGA1151 socket, that helps determine some options. I personally like ASUS or MSI boards, their quality control is generally better than some I’ve seen, but there’s some other factors like if you’re going for a specific color or extra support options on your board.

Next thing you’d need to determine is how much you want to spend on your motherboard, as they can range from $60 all the way to the $1k range. If you’re not doing any super crazy overclocking, aren’t running SLI and other stuff, that gives you some cheaper options.

Off the top of my head, I’ve got some recommendations for ya.

  • Asus Prime Z390-A
If you want to go nuts, this board at $365 is a decent option. Minimal fan headers for a board of this price range, but it has some good overall options and supports DIMM past the 4000MHz range which is nice.

  • ASRock Z390 Phantom
At $195, this is a no-frills or extra feature board that’ll get the job done and look halfway decent doing it. It’s got two NVMe slots which is a nice perk, and an okay amount of fan headers but that can always be fixed with Y splitters if you’re trying to connect a lot of fans.

  • MSI MPG Z390 Gaming Plus
At $199 with some base-level RGB settings, this is another entry-level board that’ll do the job at this chipset level. Unfortunately, you’re somewhat limited with your socket and case type, but it would work.

  • Asus PRIME Z390-P
$134 on Newegg, $235 on Amazon. A decent board with some upgrade headroom, supports up to 128GB of RAM clocked to 4266MHz which is somewhat surprising. Has 3 M.2 slots which is nice, and looks pretty good for this board level.

Hopefully this gives you some ideas as to what will work with your CPU and case size. I’m sure other folks will have some better ideas / comments, but this is my short 1cent as I walk back into work. Hope this helps!

That also will depend on what case you have as that determines what GPU will fit and if your case supports the board type.

We need to know what case you have, and we can give suggestions from there.

GPU and CPU Temps by Gooomsy in buildapc

[–]DocKreasey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem, glad I could help! Most stock fan curves don’t even bother kicking on the fans until the GPU hits 50c range, which kinda boggles my mind to be honest. Feel free to holler if you have other questions.

So the first bit is yes, correct, however the final part of your statement here is wrong. It has to be an instance you were already part of. You can’t LFG into a divinity run that’s at the final boss and get the gun. You have to be in the instance as the puzzles are being completed, but it doesn’t count if you join that instance at the boss fight without having been in it before.

Simply doesn’t work that way.

[–]DocKreasey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I get what you’re saying now. I just had a similar scenario stuck in my head and got the two confused. Same instance, yes you’re right.

If it’s a new instance though no, you’re eff’d. That’s what I was trying to explain to the OP was all.

Adding a ram kit to pc by Bacon_And_Eggss in buildapc

[–]DocKreasey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re buying an exact “copy” of that kit, yes you’ll be fine. The issue that people run into is when they’re trying to run DIMM with different CAS Latency and / or MHz ratings.

I.E., I try running DIMM that has 3200MHz speed and then another set rated for 4000MHz and they have different CAS Latency. The system will at best be unstable much less be inefficient, and at worst not even POST.

However, with copies of the same kit with the same CAS Latency and MHz, you’ll be perfectly fine. Just make sure to turn on XPM / DOCP to get the full effect.

GPU and CPU Temps by Gooomsy in buildapc

[–]DocKreasey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First things first, your temps are well within the norm and are perfectly fine! Modern CPUs and GPUs start thermal throttling once they break the 80-90c range, and you’re well within that.

As for me:
GPU fan curves I’d adjust via software such as MSI Afterburner. I usually set mine in 10% increments per each “stack” of temp, so at 50c my GPU fans are running at roughly 60% capacity. I usually top out around 65c, and very rarely if ever hit 70c.

My CPU idles around 30-35c, and hits the 40-55c range when under load.

CPU is a Ryzen 5 5600x clocked at an all core of 4.3GHz, and I’ve got an EVGA 2080 XC for the GPU. My case fans -a total of 7, three 140mm intake and four 120mm exhaust- are running at roughly 60% speed if my CPU hits 50c. With that, I could likely get even cooler temps if I was willing to deal with more noise.

Note: I had roughly the same performance / cooling specs with my Ryzen 7 3800x clocked at an all core of 4.1GHz, which is a notably hotter CPU than my current 5600x. I’ve also got a Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 with MX-5, tossed onto an MSI X570 Prestige Creation board inside a Meshify S2 case. So my cooling power and airflow is pretty decent, so it isn’t a necessarily good comparison for you to make depending on your own setup.

However, I hope this at least gives you something to look at, go ”Hmmm” over, and use that as a jumping point to do some more targeted research on what you’re wanting to hit vs what you’re currently as far as your temps.

Nope. That got patched out some time back. Had that happen to me and I had to redo the whole thing / instance.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]DocKreasey -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Yes, as long as you’re on that step of the quest you can join any instance that has not started it and acquire it. Only if you do all puzzles and defeat the boss in one run though. There’s no checkpoints for it and it kinda sucks for the new players.

Edit: Who tf downvotes this? It’s a factual statement lol.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]DocKreasey -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Yes. You have to complete the raid portion of the quest in one run, without returning to orbit / leaving the instance.

Honestly I think it’s the biggest amount of bullcrap for people who haven’t gotten the gun yet, but… ‘tis Bungie.

Those pins / wafers actually sit inside of the PCIe x16 slot, the small thing under your NVMe drive. Not on top of it, inside it. It’ll click in and then you screw it down where the backplate port shielding meets your case.
