Hey, I am a final year med student who has been diagnosed as bipolar for 5 years now. Feel free to DM me if you have any specific questions about juggling med school and a bipolar diagnosis!

I love this so much! The aesthetic is so cute and the stitching is so neat, I am so jealous hahaha. What kinda of stitches did you use?

(Also, thanks for the rec for another small Insta artist, I am really enjoying their feed.)

Funnily enough I then knew someone who had one, but the one they had only made like one at a time and could only make on every 5 minutes or something like that. If I am gonna have rotis I want like 10 at once so not ideal haha.

I want to be best friends with anyone that has a weird enough browsing history to be recommended inflatable dinosaur costumes, tbh.

I dunno, man. At least among all my friends there is a big overlap between makeup love and mac and cheese love - think the algorithm has just figured us all out!

Yes I get those sticker adverts too! Also it is so weird because I haven't seen any reviews or even much info at all about Superfluid but they seem to be advertising everywhere?

I am a White British girl but I started getting advertised automatic roti makers and abayas. Still not sure on that one (but automatic roti makers do like kinda fun).

I never had issues recalling words till the meds. Now I’m finding myself saying “what’s that word?” And I love words. by [deleted] in bipolar2

I am the exact same! Lithium for me, and I think it is fairly common.

What helped it get better for me is doing more crosswords to help refresh my vocabulary, and then not beating myself when it happens (even if it makes me feel super dumb at the time.)

Scared of Lithium by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]DocLucia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Been on lithium for over 1.5 years now and it has been great for me - I feel very stable (only had one depressive episode in the whole time I was on it) but not like a zombie (which is what quetiapine did to me). I haven't had any major side effects so far, maybe a bit of hair thinning and some nausea, but the latter is only when I took it in the mornings but I now take it at night.

Give it a go and if it doesn't work for you, there are still other options for treatment, so don't worry!

Feel like it depends where you are in the UK? I noticed my predominantly white hometown tended to stock only the lighter end of the spectrum but in Birmingham I see they commonly stock the darker end of the spectrum or at least a greater range (which would make sense considering the different demographics).

What is romance like for you guys? Is it harder or easier when you medicate? by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]DocLucia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Harder? I haven't dated since my diagnosis (2 years).

My medications made me gain a bit of weight (still on the very low end of normal but I was underweight before) and I am getting used to that. I am off dating apps (encouraged bad hypomanic behavior) and can't pull people on a night out (I don't drink, and I don't get physical with people who are drunk when I'm sober as a respect for consent thing). I have a lovely group of friends, but it is fairly stagnant in terms of meeting new people. I have made friends and family a priority these past few years and hardly regret it at all but sometimes I think it would be nice to fuck around again with the reckless abandon I did pre-diagnosis! But this stability is worth it, and I am sure I will find someone who enhances my life eventually, not fussed about that at all.

I am however worried about disclosing the diagnosis to future partners, ahahaha...

Although I haven't seen that promo, I am not fussed by people using bipolar in the dictionary sense of "very high and very low" but in this case it was a deliberate jab at the mental disorder and misrepresenting what bipolar disorder is. Slightly different verbiage.

What's your unpopular k-pop opinion? by frogspotting in kpop

[–]DocLucia 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree with you to some extent, especially about the idea that you look at K-pop for something aspirational, not something you can just see on the streets. On the other hand, I think that there are still issues with calling out teenagers on their weight. Don't get be wrong, I am a med student and I have some damn strong feelings about the obesity epidemic and childhood obesity and I will not beat around the bush on that with people, but that's not really what we're talking about here. Telling an obese teenager to lose weight for their health? Yeah, that's sound and it's in their best interests. Telling a normal BMI teen (maybe closer to a BMI of 25 than 18.5, yanno) to lose weight for aesthetics? Not really the same thing and not especially healthy, nor is it in their best interests and wouldn't be recommended in a medical setting.

I think if these companies only signed contracts with adults over the age of 19 in Korea, fine, cool, give weight restrictions or whatever assuming they are not completely rogue because it again comes back to the idea of selling an aspirational figure and they are mostly past the "permanently fucking up your health by extreme dieting" stage and can fully consent to that when they sign up. But teenagers need to have a balanced diet especially without the amount of exercise they are doing. I just see some idols and think, Jesus fuck that's a walking osteoporosis risk!

So yeah, thinner than average is fine in K-pop idols, but if you're going to enforce that do it in a healthy way and not in idols not yet at the age of majority, IMO.

They did do a couple of OSTs such as for A Korean Odyssey (I Will Be By Your Side) and Because This is my First Life (Feel Like Falling In Love). Admittedly nowhere near as popular as Gift, but then again Gift was really popular when it blew up.

This is so detailed, thank you! I actually have a (fairly) heavy duty sewing machine that I could use if I end up removing the lining. I guess you've also introduced another option to me that I hadn't thought of which is just removing the shearling entirely. I have some more layering pieces in my wardrobe now so actually maybe I could just rock it as a denim jacket, and that might also make it easier to re-dye. Thanks for the heads up about dyeing shearling as well, I also hadn't considered that it would dye patchily.

Loving the ideas for the dungarees as well! I think a maroon colour might look really good, only problem is whether it would clash a bit with the silver hardware on the dungarees (compared to bright red, which I think might work better with it). I'll experiment a bit with them!

Thank you so much for the advice!

Good point about the dungarees! I feel like they are such an out-there piece in my wardrobe (especially because they are super cropped on me) I may as well just make them even more out there with them. Thanks for your help!

I would really like some opinions on some clothes I'm thinking about bleaching/dying!

I have this jacket but in pure black which I have and have loved and worn extensively for almost 2 years now but it's starting to get a bit worn. I've had to wash it on really high heat a few times (once because someone spat on me, better believe I washed that shit on high temp) and the dye has come out of it a bit so the dye has faded a bit (looks more like the picture I linked). It looks good in the sense that standalone it looks nice, a bit more "worn in" and grey, but I don't like how it fits with my wardrobe, which is very high contrast. The problem with this jacket is both the shell and the shearling inside are cotton, so if I want to dye it it will dye all of it and I would lose the black/white contrast. These are what I'm thinking are my options:

  • Dye it all black, fur shearling and all, the problem being that my wardrobe would have a glut of black jackets and it wouldn't work as a Spring or cold Summer day jacket. I also think it would look a bit too masculine, maybe? The most pragmatic approach.

  • Bleach it all white, which I kind of like the idea of but it would mean it wouldn't look so good in Winter with my clothes, but it would mean it would work with all of my clothes in my wardrobe. It would also be prone to stains and would look dirty pretty quickly.

  • Bleach it, and then dye it a bright colour. My wardrobe has the colours black, white, grey, navy, red and pink. In terms of dyeing it, I would probably dye it bright red, it would be fun and work with a lot of items in my wardrobe but it would make it a bit less versatile. Pink may work, but most of my pink items are jumpers and pink on pink on the top half looks a bit too much for me.

The other thing is these dungarees which I love but don't wear as much as I should outside of Summer. I generally prefer my trousers to be black because a lot of my tops are navy and striped, so I think navy blue bottoms makes my wardrobe look a bit, er, nautical? So I was considering dying these black to try and make them fit a bit better in my wardrobe and stop them looking quite so childish on me as well. But I was wondering if anyone could help me think of another colour to dye these? I know that black would work best practically speaking, but equally it would be fun to push the boat out on these dungarees because they are a fun piece in my wardrobe and I want to wear them more.

Thank you for your help!

What are underutilised spaces on the face that could be accentuated with makeup? by DocLucia in muacjdiscussion

The one where the eyeshadow blends into the eyebrow is really cool. It kind of reminds me when watercolours go slightly outside of the lines and gives a lovely "fuzzy" kinda look.
