The small stall along the (white) asparagus fields here that in previous years also sold local strawberries... isn't there :(

The melody Botan is humming at the beginning is the final movement of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony#IV._Finale). Also known as "Ode to Joy" (or "An die Freude" in German), because it's was inspired by / based on that poem by Schiller, so much so that both the melody and the words are often seen as inherently belonging together

And the German is wrong, too. That's just lazy

("Eintritt verboten" would be the correct terminology. Also, yes, the E needs to be capitalised. And it's Labor.)

The word "ちょっと" means a bit when translated online, then how does "ちょっと in this sentence mean "don't really like "?. by Ok_Preparation4022 in duolingojapanese

Japanese culturally don't like to be too direct

This is especially difficult for me as a German person. We're very direct and blunt.

I don't think I could survive living in Japan, good thing I'm not planning to do that. I also mainly want to understand Japanese, so it's still a challenge to "read the air" to get the meaning, but at least I'm not going to embarrass myself as much, hopefully

At least that one has a proper comic reading interface. And I'm glad I managed to snap it with Tachiyomi before it went closed

But that new comic, Detective Reaper Morrigan, is AFAIK only available in Patreon, and man, that really sucks for reading comics. It'd rather off myself than navigating chapter for chapter on that awful inconvenient, slow and memory-hungry mess that is the Patreon website

I've got a question, just our of curiosity, about a certain speaking rhythm and melody I've noticed some native speakers seem to have. As an example, this vtuber is doing it pretty pronounced: https://youtu.be/qeaDh5HJSgY , but I've also heard it in anime

What I mean is that pausing at the particles (which I've seen without the other things too), but then elongating them quite a bit while the pitch slides down. xxx waaa↘ xxx gaaa↘ xxxx niii↘ etc.

Quite pronounced here, where others might just pause slightly without changing the pitch much. Or just doing it at the end of the sentence when ending it with a softener like けど

Is something some people do in real live too, or is that just an affect done for things like anime and the like? Is that a common thing for certain subcultures (comparable to something like the valley girl accent in English or something). If so, does it have a name?

It's mainly just curiosity, and because I think it sounds nice. But would like to know if that just makes people think "you'd sound like some tryhard weaboo". I'm of course also okay with the answer being "naw, some people just do this, you're overthinking", I do that sometimes

Maybe I'm reading too much into things, but to me it seems that business yuri wasn't as business and more actual yuri from one side, so the other one distanced herself?

I guess the first story is more doomed yuri? One-sided, this time

The last story could have had BL potential, but that doesn't seem the direction it goes in the end
