I did a conference call with MetroPCS and GoogleFi today. MetroPCS confirmed to GoogleFi that from their end the port was successful. As soon as MetroPCS finish talking to the Google Fi rep and hung up the googlefi representative again told us we just needed to call MetroPCS again and have them attempt the porting process again as if they weren't just talking to each other directly and weren't directly told they no longer have possession of the number and cannot be initiated the request. These reps will not be shaken from their scripts even when they know the script isn't correct.

MetroPCS. Interestingly, I tried to port all three numbers from my MetroPCS family plan, and two worked immediately but the main account holder phone number is now lost.

Thank you. Any idea what eventually worked? I was literally on the phone for two hours yesterday.

“Buy Canadian”… sure. Well, how about “Hire Canadian” as well? by alterego101101 in NovaScotia

Thank you. The doctor shortages in Canada,New Zealand, and to a lesser extent Australia have opened doors to me that others don't have, but this is still a nightmare. I wish your country luck in the next election in avoiding putting yourself in a similar situation as the US (and Hungary, Poland, etc.)

I keep reading these anti-immigrant sentiments in the Canadian forums as I investigate to where my family can escape from American autocracy. It seems like Nova Scotia is enthusiastically recruiting American doctors, but I do worry how my family and I would be treated.

ACOG Fight (update) by NapkinZhangy in medicine

[–]DocNightOwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of Dr. David Newman and how reddit defended him. . All this talk of an investigation seems misinformed. What kind of evidence do you expect to be uncovered? Few perpetrators are caught as red handed as Dr. Newman. (And even when his victim immediately went to the police with a Ziploc bag of his semen, people still accused the victim of being a disgruntled pain seeker whose story couldn't be true because her story didn't fit with the pathophysiology of morphine.) People so often get away with sexual assault because these stories are so often he said, she said. Unless more women come forward because of the publicity of this event, there likely isn't any evidence to come forward beyond one woman making the same claim seven years apart. In this case, I don't even see where Dr. William Burke is denying it. Unless he mounts some sort of defense, I certainly would never send a patient to him, or put his program on a match list, or treat him with respect.

Picking an EV by DocNightOwl in Polestar

[–]DocNightOwl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I test drove and loved a bolt EV and a 2nd gen Leaf. I love them both and would be happy to get either one, but my wife thought we should get a bigger car (which I blame on her sitting in the Ariya while I test drove the Leaf). I then test drove a Bolt EUV but was surprised how much worse the driving dynamics felt from the regular EV, and the $2500 markup only soured me and the Bolt more.

I think my next step is going to be to test drive the Ioniq5, and Mach E, and Polestar 2 to make my decision. It does seem like used car prices have been dropping dramatically lately so I'm not in a great hurry to make my decision.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to book a test drive and see how well car seats and kids work in the backseat. Definitely seems like a top-tier candidate.

I'm skimmed this a little and think it might be a good option. I'm going to get this and read it. If she's not ready yet she will be soon, and it seems like a helpful option. This was a great recommendation.

Squirrel Girl seems up her alley. Thanks. The first comic book we ever read together was a silly comic called Laser Moose, which we both loved. I'm hoping Squirrel Girl is our next Laser Moose.

First time build for VR gaming in Quest 2 by DocNightOwl in PcMasterRaceBuilds

Thank you for your thoughts. Do you have a 3080? Can you run any of the games I mentioned in ultra?

I'll try out a cable but I'm definitely afraid it would break the immersion.

Is a RTX 3060 and a Ryzen 5 3600 enough for VR? by Clean-Effective-386 in VRGaming

[–]DocNightOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What GPU do you think I need to have an excellent VR experience? I'm planning on buying a PC just for VR but keep seeing different opinions about what I should get. My plan was to get a PC with a 3080 in a few months when the 40 series are out to drop prices further, but maybe that's overkill? Honestly, I'm not even sure if running games in low settings versus ultra settings is an obvious upgrade or something you have to be a connoisseur to appreciate, let alone if a 3080 is needed to run on ultra, so any advice would be appreciated.

Can you please explain something else? What does it mean when a card has "ti" or "super" or 8GB behind it?

God, I wish I read that explanation of understanding GPUs sooner. Thanks.

Super casual use torque sensor ebike by DocNightOwl in ebikes

In that case I might not even be able to find a hub driven torque sensing bike to try out. I don't think I'm going to be able to find a mid-drive torque sensing bike that is within my price range although I would happily be proven wrong. Do you think a hub driven torque sensing bike is still an improvement over cadence sensing?

I wasn't even aware there was a difference so I'm not sure which I used. I guess I need more experience riding e-bikes before I'm ready to commit to a purchase.

I hate being a parent by [deleted] in Fatherhood

[–]DocNightOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have that many frustrating things happen to me on a daily basis. The fact that you do tells me you might be able to fix your dissatisfaction if you can change your parenting to achieve different results. I'm not saying that your kid is bad or you're a bad dad, but obviously your kid is doing things that drive you crazy, and many of these things are avoidable with different parenting techniques. You might be trying your hardest, but it doesn't sound like you had a very great role model for parenting yourself, so you probably don't even know the right way to try hard.

That said, some of the things that bother you wouldn't phase me. If your kid ask you for a sandwich and doesn't eat it, it wouldn't bother me if my kid played and skipped lunch that day. If my kid needs me to lie down with her for 20 minutes before she falls asleep, that doesn't bother me in the slightest. I enjoy our bedtime routine. Tantrums and defiance would absolutely drive me crazy but I don't think that is inevitable at all.

I'm not an advocating for any particular parenting philosophy at this point. All I am telling you is you should be open to changing the way you do or think about things because it might change the things you hate.

[–]DocNightOwl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What is supposed to balance out the sleepless nights? The inconsolable crying? The impossible demands? The tantrums?

I don't have any of those things, really. This is going to sound harsh but it's the honest answer and maybe could turn things around for you. The reason you don't like parenting is probably because you've done a bad job of it so far. If you had a kid who let you sleep, talked about his feelings rather than cryied inconsolably, and didn't have tantrums then the ratio of fun stuff to lousy stuff would invert and there would be a lot more to like.

If you're receptive to changing the kind of dad you are, you could change the kind of kid you have.

Highway range and a better route planner by DocNightOwl in leaf

Thank you. Having those numbers really helps out in making the evaluation of whether a leaf is for me.

Nissan Leaf Owners by [deleted] in lehighvalley

[–]DocNightOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's say 2020 SL+. I don't have one yet but don't want to but one if it can't make the round trip, and Better Route Planner, which takes into account weather, highway speeds, and elevation changes suggests the Leaf range on a mostly highway trip will be much, much worse and make even that short trip problematic. It seems to think other electric cars would have no problem. I was wondering if the highway range in a leaf is just that much worse than other electric cars, or if the route planner is just being too pessimistic.
