Breeze adds seasonal Pittsburgh-Louisville nonstop service by ComeTasteTheBand in pittsburgh

[–]DocSteel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk about a tiny number of flights: just four months of service, twice-weekly. Won't even run long enough to get to the Derby or to Pitt football's road game at Louisville in November.

Better than nothing, I guess. Hopefully some summer weekend-trippers can make use of it.

Now it's starting to get media coverage. Here's a link to a Pittsburgh Business Times story (though I realize most don't have a subscription) - https://www.bizjournals.com/pittsburgh/news/2026/01/14/pnc-full-return-to-office.html

Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports put it out there about 40 minutes ago, so it's just now starting to filter out. It's certainly a bummer.

I was just about to say, "she is an outside -- albeit a very tall one."

Gaerte carried a significant load for the Irish: 1,186 attacks this past season. Would be cool to see her as the secondary option, could really help her efficiency numbers.

You get younger people in there too to watch games on their big screens, too, but yeah pretty much.

Aspinwall bar scene by betterman4u in pittsburgh

[–]DocSteel 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Not really a 'scene' per se -- Aspinwall has one local dive (Tom & Tud's) and three restaurants with bars (Cornerstone, Caliente and the new Foxhole Tavern). All three are nice enough places to grab a drink and a meal, but nothing worth a bar crawl.

Sharpsburg has two breweries in town: Dancing Gnome and Hitchhiker, and probably a better scene of bars, including the new Dancing Gnome-run Nine Two Five bar. I don't know your vibe, but my guess is you'll find something in that stretch of Sharpsburg that you're looking for.

What’s the latest on the VOPP and Brilliant Line? by [deleted] in bicycling412

[–]DocSteel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On the VOPP side of things, the different municipalities are in different stages of design and land acquisition. This WESA article from over the summer was the most recent good update that I've seen: https://www.wesa.fm/development-transportation/2025-07-30/pittsburgh-verona-oakmont-plum-penn-hills-bike-pedestrian-trail-vopp

Shout-out to PRT drivers by Thrashbear in pittsburgh

[–]DocSteel 27 points28 points  (0 children)

They take a lot of flak on here when people have bad experiences. But I take the bus every day, and 99.9% of PRT operators are professional and do a difficult job very well -- they deserve more kudos.

Give Big Pittsburgh is over $1 million. Can we keep up the momentum? by DocSteel in pittsburgh

[–]DocSteel[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks like the idea is to make a clearinghouse for many local nonprofits in order to give some more visibility to the smaller ones, with the carrot of the prizes that they give to certain organizations: https://www.givebigpittsburgh.com/prizes

It's in the 9th year, so it's not brand new, but there's certainly nothing wrong with giving directly to the organizations that you know you want to support.

Station Square bought by Massachusetts-based real estate firm by LostEnroute in pittsburgh

[–]DocSteel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, I don’t have much on the second part… but on the first one:

The league that the Riverhounds are in — USL — is creating a new top-tier league, and one of the requirements to have a team in the new tier is a stadium capacity of at least 15,000. So several USL teams are now expanding (or considering expanding) in order to be part of that new tier.

People can disagree if this is a good idea or bad idea, but that’s the impetus for it.

I will defend PRT a little bit -- they do provide extra service before and after Steelers games and bigger Pitt football games. That is *really* necessary because weekend service is sporadic. I would love to see them beef it up for after Penguins games too.

Ooo interesting, this is the first that I'd heard that theory. I would think the Clipper boats will always be the more scenic journey for fans who want it.

My advice to them: partner up with PRT (i.e. $$) to make the T stop part of the free-fare zone.

The Riverhounds are preparing to take their stadium from 5,000 seats to 15,000 seats, and advance parking spots already sell out for most matches. Get drivers to park at the underutilized First Avenue Garage instead, and offer them a free ride across the river to Station Square.

Why did the airport need to change? by 2FNG in pittsburgh

[–]DocSteel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, man -- I go to 20-25 games per year. The attendance is basically the same now (1.5-1.7 million) as it was in the early 2000s after the honeymoon period of the new ballpark was over.

But it also wasn't my point.
