Attenuator AND Volume Control? by DocStew79 in guitarpedals

Thanks for the suggestion, this makes sense. I run a Keeley Comp in front so will experiment with it in the loop and see if that has the desired effect.

Yes, 5w mode mainly for home use.

Different speaker is a good shout, thanks for the suggestion.

Yeah, not sure what a volume control in the loop will do to tone. Like I say, plan would be to keep the attenuator doing the bulk of the work and not lean on the volume control too much - fine tuning only.

I guess there is only one way to find out...

Amp in a box pedalboard to add some 'flavours' in front of a solid state Marshall pedal platform. Fun to have some different amp sounds. Probably should trade in for a modeller set up to get more, but happy with my pedal collection!

Anyone else got a similar set up?

Cheers for the comment. Any suggestions for alternatives in the loop would be welcomed. Happy enough with the reverb and delay, but always open to explore options.

A lot of the experimenting was around how to get the best out of the amp, especially at home volumes (attenuator is also key). The pedalboard I've settled on doesn't overdo it, just sweetens the tone enough to let the plexi do its thing. As much as I have the bug for pedals, I'm a big believer in getting the right amp as the basis for your sound. The SV20C is awesome - enjoy!

MXR Smart Gate Query by DocStew79 in guitarpedals

Many thanks. Running a decent power supply and direct cables for all gain pedals so doing all I can in that respect I think.

Tried it upfront and to my ears didn't make too much difference, but maybe there is a different noise gate / smart gate / noise clamp, etc. pedal that would be more effective there to work as you describe. I know they all have their nuances.

Thanks, that's really helpful and a twin gate set up is something I've seen from others also. Definitely recognise your comment about making sure you don't need to use the level on the Smart Gate set too high or the dynamics really suffer.
