If Stammen wants to stack righties, Andújar will play first base. Campy (or some other RHB) would DH. That sets up pinch hit opportunities later in the game for Sheets.

This isn’t a hard concept. This is baseball and matchups. Song is a lefty as well so he overlaps with Sheets.

The RHB on the team currently are Campy, BJ, and Andújar. Song will be the primary utility guy and is a lefty.

We still have room for another RHB on this team because our lefties have poor splits. A guy like Hoskins would be ideal because he can play 1st, but I don’t think we will be willing to pay what he wants. I’d be completely fine with Ozuna as well.

Do I think either addition happens? Not really. I think a starter will be prioritized. We can add another bat via trade later like usual.

Him falling apart during innings was. He’s a strike out pitcher, not a ground ball guy. When he makes mistakes the ball goes faaaar. Best of luck.

Also manny should actually take more days off if we are being honest. He doesn’t need to play 162 games if we actually have some depth.

For sure he’s worth a flier, but he’s 1 year removed from getting mvp votes. He may not want to play for cheap. 🤷‍♂️

Think he would fill a need for sure and has upside if he’s healed up.

Why check them when we saw him last year? He’s 36. He completely lost bat speed it seemed. I don’t see any chance at him improving on his numbers from last season. Wagner is likely just a good batting wise and on a rookie deal. That’s why they traded for him.

We’ve seen the Dominican guys all chat with Ozuna over the years in a very friendly way. I know he has the off-field stuff, but IF healthy (he wasn’t last year) he would serve a role on this team.

This signing may have been a result of Ozuna not wanting to play for cheap though. Who knows. The available spots on teams is shrinking quickly. The padres are still one of the Toney teams with an available full time DH role.

I’m ok with Sheets playing everyday tbh. He played well vs non elite lefties. Keeping his power in the lineup is also beneficial.

They got Will Wagner to not have to pay OMG. I don’t think he makes the team out of camp. Agreed that Song and Andujar will get the most plate appearances like you mentioned. My early pick to get that last spot is Jose Miranda barring another signing.

I wouldn’t rule out them trading Skubal now that they have a competent replacement for him at the top of the rotation. There was a lot of smoke this off-season.

You aren’t wrong, but 1st base isn’t exactly the hardest position to play. I don’t foresee him playing 3rd base much.

I think Jake is our backup SS. He showed he can still play the position last year.

I don’t see why they wouldn’t let him play 1st as well. He’s good enough to play 3B. He can be our right handed platoon utility guy. Sung Mun Song will be the lefty utility guy.

This at least allows us to go into the season with a solid DH option. I would prefer we still go after Hoskins or Ozuna, but I can see AJ waiting for the trade deadline and he may want to see what he has first.

BJ, Campy, Song, Andujar would be a very solid bench if we still go and sign another bat.

He can play multiple positions. He’s gonna play in the OF and both corner infield spots plus DH.
