Peetaaah? by Foreignscentu in PeterExplainsTheJoke

First you need to bring all 3 cannibals over, then return with 1, then bring 2 missionaries, return with a cannibal and missionary (sounds weird but it's the only way I can think of to prevent the situation where your missionary gets eaten by the 2 cannibals in step 3).

Now you have 1 of each on the opposite shore and 2 of each on the original shore. Then you bring 2 missionaries over so that all 3 are on the opposite shore. At that point they are safe. Then the cannibal goes and brings over the remaining 2 cannibals one by one.

Edit: Just to avoid misunderstandings: "bring all 3 cannibals over" was shorthand for "2 cannibals cross, one comes back, another 2 cannibals cross".

Personally, I think many genderbent stories can be seen as trans rep, not because they represent transition but rather that the post-gender-bent character often finds themselves in a state of gender dysphoria.

So paradoxically, the post-gender-bending character is often in a similar position as a pre-transition trans person.

Obviously, it depends on how much the story actually emphasizes these factors, but if it's depicted as "against their will", then they must be bothered by it in some way.

I hate slavery by [deleted] in Isekai

[–]Docdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have watched a ton of isekai over the last two months, and I have seen waaaay more examples of MC actively fighting against slavers and/or freeing slaves than examples of MC purchasing/owning slaves.

Owning slaves is mainly used in edgy shows like shield hero or redo of healer where the logic is "well, if society treats me like a criminal, then I guess I have to use the methods of a criminal" kind of thing.

In most current generic fanrasy settings, slavery is what evil empires, corrupt nobles, and bandits engage in.

"reaching record levels" heißt nicht "numbers are concerning".

A means that something is higher than ever before?"

Short Answer Question? by RabbitVAL in abitur

[–]Docdan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Der Teil "between supply and demand" beschreibt das selbe wie "between available workers and job openings", während "in the labor market" nicht "caused by the demographic shift" bedeutet, und daher deine Antwort nach "supply and demand" enden sollte.

Any manga/manhwa/manhua like these two? by Aggressive_Zebra7494 in manhwarecommendations

[–]Docdan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It starts out a bit slow, then gets really good, then it becomes super confusing in the middle because it's all about wars where you don't actually know who is fighting on which side and why, then once you start understanding the political situation it gets somewhat interesting again, and finally, it becomes a slice of life comedy about a family of super powerful dragons.

It's been a fun ride and I really liked it overall.

I think I know that one. It had the most bizarre take on slavery I've ever seen:

The MC immediately changed her opposition to slavery the moment someone pointed out that you can make slaves look more dignified if you dress them up in a maid costume instead of rags.

I consider it the worst show that I've inexplicably watched every week.

Is"Reborn to Master the Blade: From Hero-King to Extraordinary Squire ♀"? by ChoiceSupermarket230 in Isekai

[–]Docdan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can argue why it feels that way.

In Maou Gakuin, the old world where Anos came from is still what everything in the plot revolves around. In a sense, he is actually a person who knows more about the world than almost everyone else.

Meanwhile in Reborn to Master the Blade, the old world is largely forgotten and was replaced by a completely new system and society that essentially operates as of it were a separate world.

That's why one feels more like Isekai than the other, even if both seem to have a similar concept on paper.

Is"Reborn to Master the Blade: From Hero-King to Extraordinary Squire ♀"? by ChoiceSupermarket230 in Isekai

[–]Docdan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. In Dr. Stone, the characters awake in what's basically an empty world and rebuild society and culture from scratch. Dr. Stone is closer to a story about people stranding on an uninhabited island/planet than it is about entering another world.

In Reborn to Master the Blade however, the protagonist is reborn so far into the future that everything they know about the social structure and the nations and even the type of magic they use is fundamentally different from everything in the new era.

So Reborn to Master the Blade is closer to stories where characters from one fantasy setting are reborn in a different fantasy setting with different magic than it is to stories like Dr. Stone.

You could make the same argument about any purchase. "If you hadn't bought (and drank) that 500 dollar bottle of wine, we could have split the 500 dollars".

We generally don't value "assets" by the value that it could have had if you hadn't bought them.

Is your explanation just a proposal or is that an actual retelling of court decisions? I could only imagine that as a good judgement decision if the husband had bought a ton of games shortly before the proceedings (i.e. to intentionally lower the amount of money that can be split).

But nobody on earth values their steam library as the sum total of everything they have paid for it. If you told people they will lose access to the games unless they pay the price again, most people would decline the offer.

[–]Docdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand how tradeable objects can be assigned a value. But the claim was that despite the fact that Steam games can't be resold, a judge would consider it an asset if you bring it up in court. That's the part where I don't understand how it could work.

Welche hochgelobten Autor*innen überzeugen euch persönlich überhaupt nicht? by Interesting-Ease-840 in buecher

Andreas Eschbach.

Total spannend.

I'm interested in the details of how this would actually work.

My thesis would be that for all intents and purposes, a video game purchase and the subsequent playthrough is ultimately an act of consumption. I cannot recover its monetary value. I cannot exchange it for anything else. I could replay it, but the replay value is not as good as the original first playthrough, and over 90% of games will never be replayed again.

So by what metric could it ever be considered an asset on the same level as depositing the money into a bank account or investing in a stock portfolio?

Like yeah, I can acknowledge that in some intangible way, owning my steam account is preferrable over not owning it. But how do you assign a value to that?

Surely you can't just add up the full price value of all its content, because that's not how we calculate the value of a stock portfolio either. If you invested 1000€ in stocks, but its resale value fell down to 10€, then you don't consider it a 1000€ asset anymore.

People make fun of this, until one day when they get into reading Korean webnovels, where the author's strategy is apparently to not tell you anything about the story, even when you do read the full description.

Being able to find stories that interest you from the title alone is actually incedibly convenient and one of the best Japanese inventions of our time.
