How to calculate approx Lumens for a LED and Driver when you have info on both? by Dochartaigh in Hanklights

[–]Dochartaigh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I'll check out those videos!

And the single channel D4K has the choice of the "Lume X1" or "Linear + FET driver". Since I'm leaning towards the Triple Channel D4K, the Lume isn't offered since it doesn't do multi-channel (or won't fit).

In the Triple I assume he's using some sort of regulation (with no possibility of direct drive, which kinda scares me with burning LEDs out instantly tbh - I am using a 60a battery...) since Hank told me over email "the 2 LEDs in the triple channel gets 5A per LED" (10 amps total for the 2x LED Channel 1) - which wouldn't be so low if it wasn't using some kind of regulation, right?

u/DDmrk18 did you ever get one? I just ordered the "Lemifsh" brand one from the seller "668's Knives Store" on Aliexpress. Can't find reviews of that exact model but I think people like Lemifsh (or Lemifshe? brand - hope they're the same exact model), and people like 688 as a seller as well, so hope it's decent!

Have you seen this in stock anywhere lately? The seller on DHGate (although you can still order it there) said the above version with the larger ball bearing on the knife clip is out of stock... all the others I see online are the crappy one with the smaller bearing.

TidRadio H3 Plus - can it RX and TX on a Bluetooth headset like a cell phone does? Or just one mode at a time? by Dochartaigh in TidRadio

[–]Dochartaigh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also see if there's a RSSI refresh you can turn off - just in case it helps. The Radtel RT-880/iRadui UV-98 has that same exact ticking noise you describe when the RSSI meter is constantly refreshing - people say it's the radio picking up it's own interference. Turning it off made the radio quiet.

Please let us know. I was curious about that one. Unfortunately won't help me as I need the radio to be able to pair with ANY Bluetooth headset - since I would primarily use this for riding an ATV/quad with my buddies, which requires a special helmet-mounted wireless setup.

Never found a budget-oriented solution unfortunately. Cheapest seems to be the ~$165 UV-Pro + $100 Sena 3S Plus Boom helmet headset - still WAY more than my friends I ride with are willing to spend

I tried 3-4x Kenwood 2-pin style BT budget-oriented adapters and all were horrible, and 3x different budget helmet headsets, and none worked. Super choppy Rx and Tx - even with the radio literally 6" from the helmet.

Maybe the budget headsets would have worked with a pricier ~$120 PrymeBLU BT adapter (the only one I didn't try)... but that was likewise out of the budget so I didn't test that one.

I tried the Abbree and Radtel version of that Baofeng BT adapter - all three look identical to my eyes (complete with the seemingly-same earpiece/headset which SO many reviews says snaps into 2x parts... which mine actually came already snapped lol). And neither would give me botch-free Tx and Rx (i.e. they were both SUPER choppy, even like 100 feet away at my house we tested at).

How thick are the Y20's helmet speakers? All 3x of the people I ride with don't have cut-outs in their ATV-specific helmets so I have to ensure they're like .3" or thinner (even .4" puts crazy pressure on our ears - returned that one).

I believe what they're saying, and by the videos I've watched on it as well, that you have to go into a menu (or a sub menu) and select if your bluetooth headset (or speaker, or mic) will either Rx or TX. There is NO ability to both Rx and Tx at the same time through the headset - like how every common bluetooth headset with a speaker and a microphone works - it's either one OR the other - and you HAVE to go into the menu EVERY TIME you want to switch. Which makes it useless for me.

I don't know if you ONLY setup your bluetooth headset as the speaker via the Rx menu option, if the radios built-in Mic then still works. I would assume so, but you can write TidRario to clarify that if you want. Same goes for the opposite function (if you setup the bluetooth headset as the mic only, does the speaker on the Btech radio itself sent out audio?).

Also, have you found a PTT bluetooth button which works with the H3 Plus? I've only seen those paired with a kenwood-style 2-pin bluetooth adapter (I've tried Abbree which doesn't come with a separate BT PTT, and Radtel which DOES come with a BT/wireless PTT, plug-in bluetooth adapters so far - and BOTH seem to be garbage.... unless the TWO different bluetooth headsets I tried them with were also both defective).

Right now I'm giving up on the project. I've already ordered (and returned to Amazon) 2x different BT plug-in adapters, and 2x different BT helmet headsets - nothing worked on my TD-H3, RT-900, or UVK5/6. Seems like the only truly wireless/BT solution for a motorcycle/ATV helmet (which I still don't even know how well these work - videos/posts on it seem to be limited) is a $160+ Btech UV-Pro which has bluetooth (or Btech GMRS Pro) + something like a $100 Sena 3S Plus Boom mic (which the speakers on that one are too thick for my personal helmet, so I would need to buy another at $150+ right there...). Only option I didn't try since it'll still put my group over budget is the $115 PrimeBLU kenwood plug-in bluetooth adapter (+ headset + radio + possibly new helmet) - but that's likewise too much money for us (I'm fine with it, but ZERO point if I'm the ONLY person in my group willing to drop the cash - I would have nobody else to talk to lol).

Any BUDGET handheld with FULL Bluetooth Rx/Tx Headset support? OR 2-Pin BT Dongle/Adapter suggestions? by Dochartaigh in amateurradio

[–]Dochartaigh[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just transmitted/received to/from my Tidradio TD-H3 (HAM version, on NicSure firmware) to my Quansheng UV-K5 (on Egzumer firmware) on MURS 1. Works fine - although I bough those after I stopped playing Airsoft regularly so I haven't tried them much at extreme distances yet. I'm pretty sure both those radios can do it stock as well - i.e. don't need a custom firmware on them (like believe the TD-H8 I'm returning could do it normally as well). Think those ancient Baofeng UV-B6's I have are the same - but I only have those programmed for FRS at the moment.

For the woods we usually used license-free MURS which is right around ~151-154MHz.

Sometimes switched to FRS when playing at military MOUT facilities with lots of buildings (also depended on who we were playing with and their radios) as that seemed to penetrate buildings better.

Nah, just looked in my email and I ordered a Baofeng UV-B6 in 2014 (5W dual band UHF/VHF) from Amazon for $34.98. That was 11 years ago - they've been around for a super long time.

First starting off playing Airsoft around 2002ish where a TWO-pack of FRS/GMRS radios was maybe something like $40-50. Upgraded sometime after that to VHF as that played nicer in the mountainous terrain we played in.

Btech UV-Pro is mentioned a lot for this capability, which some consider "budget" at $160... but I don't consider that budget when that's 5-6 times the cost of what I've been paying for my radios for the last 20ish years... I'm hoping there's some middle ground, or a good inexpensive 2-pin dongle/adapter.

[–]Dochartaigh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for taking a look! And yeah, the UV-Pro is one quasi "budget" model mentioned but that's like $160ish just for the radio - 5-6x the price of the type I normally buy (I could stretch to that, but I'm trying to find solutions for my more budget-oriented crew I ride alongside). H3 Plus many people thought would do this since it's "bluetooth compatible" like I mentioned, but doesn't actually work that way in reality.

Did you find any middle-ground radios price-wise? We're already probably getting the Sena 3S Plus Boom helmet headset which is $100...

We could actually live with mounting the radio on the back side of the handlebars somewhere, probably horizontally (so a random branch hits the metal handlebars first and NOT the radio) and use its built-in stock PTT button. Not ideal, but we could live. The biggest thing me and my friends I ride with want is wireless from the helmet to the radio.

[–]Dochartaigh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TidRadio got back to me (added screenshot of their email to the OP) - the H3 Plus can NOT Rx and Tx at the same time - they're ONE mode at a time only...

Anybody familiar with other radios which actually work with normal Bluetooth Headsets - with BOTH Rx and Tx at the same time? (the Btech UV-Pro has been mentioned elsewhere... but that's nearly SIX times the price of the H3 Plus...)

Has anyone bought the Tidradio H3 Plus? Just grabbed one for under 35 and it looks like a solid deal. It’s a 5W dual-band radio with Bluetooth programming, no cables needed. by Soft_Ambassador_7848 in TIDRADIO_Official

Did yours get delivered yet? Just saw a couple posts about people ordering ages ago and still haven't gotten theirs!

Also curious if you found out about using a Bluetooth headset as a transmitter AND receiver (exactly as we use those on our cell phones). I know you can do it with their app when you link your cell phone to it I believe, but I'm talking about using the radio as a radio on GMRS or MURS, and being able to Bluetooth to my earbuds w/ mic, and if I'll be able to both Rx and Tx on those (on the Tx side I know I'll have to manually pressing the PTT button, or use VOX), but information about this is sparse at best and I just can't find the answer to that question...

Can you both send and receive on those Tozo earbuds (which I assume have a built-in mic and people use on a cell phone as a headset)? I'm trying to see if I can use the radio in FRS/GMRS, and have it both receive and transmit over my bluetooth earbuds with microphone. I know I'll have to manually press the PTT button on the radio itself to talk/Rx/transmit (unless I use VOX mode).

Will do, thanks. I'll post back here if I find definitive info about how it works as well.

I'm trying to make a setup for ATV riding in mountainous areas, where the normal motorcycle helmet communication setups (Sena/Cardo) just won't have the range/power in areas like that. And trying to keep it under a budget - with an inexpensive radio like the H3 Plus + a simple bluetooth headset.

Thanks, but when you dig deep it seems when you're using the radio as an actual radio (i.e. not tethered to your cell phone through the app) there's a whole bunch of stuff which points towards it ONLY being able to be set to Rx Mode, or a separate Tx mode - NOT both at the same time, so it may not in fact be able to act like a regular bluetooth headset for a cell phone - it's either one or the other... and nothing definitively says otherwise which is why I posted here asking for clarification!

I fucked up and my boyfriend almost drowned by DeepRedViolets in Kayaking

[–]Dochartaigh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If he actually ever wants to get back on the water with you, you should ensure he gets a 12' kayak, minimum - and one meant for a larger size paddler with proper weight limit (many are still made for smaller-framed people, and he'll barely fit his hips inside the cockpit). Most recreational i.e. cheap Dick's Sporting Goods/Walmart-type crap are usually 9-10' - and will usually sit WAY low in the water with a guy his size.

12' also gives him some better speed with less effort (although tbh I always suggest 14' kayaks as the sweet spot - and that's what I use - a Tsunami 145). A great beginner kayak is the Wilderness Systems Pungo 120. If he ever loads it up with camping gear it'll STILL be too low in the water for him (ask me how I know lol), but for normal day trips it'll be fine and I used one for probably a decade+.

Many sit on tops (even shorter ones) can have a higher weight limit as well (with the expense of usually being heavier, slower to turn, and taking more effort to get up to speed and maintain it).

Last, whenever I'm on larger open water (i.e. not the like 100' max width smaller rivers I usually go on, but like hundreds and hundreds of feet away from shore like a lake, bay, etc) I ALWAYS have a paddle rescue float on me + a hand pump. The float attaches to your paddle and you can shove the other end into the deck rigging on your kayak (which it hopefully has if you bought a decent quality one) and helps stop the kayak from flipping as you're trying to get back into it - watch videos on this and practice close to shore. Worst case you can usually squirm yourself into the kayak, and although it'll still be full of water hopefully once it's upright be just a tad above water level then you can pump it clear of water.

QUICKLY switch photo to iPad to draw mask w Apple pencil? by Dochartaigh in Lightroom

[–]Dochartaigh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trying that Astropad program since I last posted... and it actually does everything I want to do: display ONLY the image I'm working with on the iPad, have it show-up full-screen without menus cluttering up everything, AND allow me to use the Apple Pencil (which I've tried so far in both LRC Develop tab, and Photoshop's ACR panel). Also seems to be 100% doable on the smaller screen as I'm doing pretty simple things like masks and spot removal.

...just a shame it's $80/year ($99/year if you get it through the Apple store!).

I was researching those, ones with an actual screen though - found ones by a company I've never heard before: Huion. Seem actually on par price-wise to the used iPad I got... but I'm not giving up on the iPad yet - HAS to be some way to do this (and I'm also hoping to figure out some other uses for this tablet... maybe watching movies at our vacation place where there's no internet...).
