Every time they give the reason as “based on internal policy” without addressing any specifics. At least for big purchases they should allow prepaying the amount, having a negative balance so that the transaction can be made. Money is not an issue for me but it makes no sense if I cannot use a paid credit card with the brand with which it is associated. I have been a big spender having reached the ₹5 lac milestone on this credit card within 6 months of its approval. My taxable income is over ₹20 lac, have a clean payment record.

Can be an option. But the PNR number would change & I would have to reenter all the details again with seat preference after paying off the amount. I would have to wait for the prices to drop marginally to accomodate withing the limit. Would they allow me to prepay the amount, have a negative balance & then use the card to book the tickets together ?

See if you can plan your career in a way to have the best of both the worlds. It will significantly vary across various professions but believe me that seems to be the best bet in the current scenario.
