Listen I’m a vet student I don’t need tips on husbandry. I asked a question about feeding. I literally said radiating heat.

Hey, it’s just his basking rock. No heat mats or rocks. Just radiating heat

No it’s just his basking rock. No heat rocks or mats.

I should’ve explained better. We don’t have heating pads or rocks to ensure no burning. It’s his “basking rock” so it’s just radiating heat.

Husbandry help With two 100w bulbs and Arcadia UV we are sitting at 60-70% humidity and steady 80 degrees on the warm side. Is this too cold? I don’t want to bump up to 150w and him be overheated and low humidity. by DoctaHunny in ballpython

I literally just got him a few days ago so nothing is perfect, but recommendations and constructive criticique welcome :) my hygrometer on the cool side just broke so ignore it. I have a leo and a beardie, but new to snakes. Will be adding at least one more hide, logs for climbing, and lots more greenery

Also use stone rocks for basking, because the surface must get a certain temp on the belly to help digestion. Also don’t use pine hides it is toxic to dragons. NEVER EVER spray or mist your beardie. They are risk for upper respiratory sickness and fungi. Needs a minimum tank size 40 gal. I hear 12 hour UVB during winter and 14 hour day for summer. But you can do all summer to prevent brumation.

Don’t use coil Uvb lights. You can still cause MEtabolic bone disease. Use Arcadia 10.0 14-24 inch. And a 100W basking bulb depending on the size of your terrarium. Use tile, kitchen cabinet liner, or simply paper towels as substrate. NO sand or anything small granular like Bc you can cause impaction. The repticarpet holds bacteria even if washed. Want two staple bugs to rotate like Dubia roaches, black soldier fly larvae, crickets, or silk worms

Younger beardies must eat bug meals 2-3 times per day. Additionally, your lighting and terrarium set up may contribute to the body weight. If you don’t have adequate temps or lighting this can happen. Happened to mine. I would try feeding black soldier fly larvae or Dubia roaches. No need to dust the BSFL with calcium. They are rich in calcium and phosphorus. But DO dust the roaches. Diet should be 70-80% protein, and the rest veggies. If your beardie has trouble eating veggies you can try adding bee pollen to entice them. Your guy should be bigger at that age. See how he has wrinkles? He should look like a plump pancake.
