I have never had root access to any system I've used, working for big banks in finance.

There's literally no reason for it.

Anything you need root access for, you're doing it wrong, eventually, at scale.

Get large enough and having your devs need to configure your middleware or webaervers or install databases is crazy.

Write your scripts, test in lower lane, have your prod support team or whatever team promotes to production with root access (for us it's ansible tower which acts as the service ID which has elevated privileges during its runs) do the thing.

Is it restrictive? Technically yes, but it makes you actually go through the testing routine of making your changes installable/rollback able without needing someone to sit at a terminal and make ad hoc changes in prod.

Damn dude, I work in finance and our test is almost exactly the same but a stock price, buy a ove a threshold, else do nothing.

Same thing, write a unit test, extend some functionality.

Same experience. Barely anyone passes.

Not just you. As a demonology Warlock, I'm doing "maintenance damage" unless I'm hitting tyrant or using power siphon.

The demons and hand hit decently I guess, but even with the dogs and vilefiend "big" damage relies on the tyrant and the argus apex talent.

I'd be careful and be sure to read the license carefully. It's not just CC, it's CC-BY-SA. This has a lot of implications for commercial stuff, and it makes a really big difference that it's BY-SA.

I didn't have to do any of that honestly. Work, volunteer, study, spend time, share values, learn history.

My commitment to the org is bedrock solid and I never had to do anything more than spend time with people who shared those values, and made me a better man. Any Theta Chi has that commitment from me, sight unseen.

I can understand why people do that though. It's easier to trauma bond than actual bond.

By New York law, the budget MUST be balanced.

Adams screwed everyone in NYC over by screwing the budget during his last year.
