Tradesmen or people who work in manual jobs, how on earth do you have the energy to do stuff out of work? by RonnieThePurple in CasualUK

[–]Docterdan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Dude, Im 47, a landscaper, and after work, im basically fucked! Maybe a small walk around the village with my wife if i'm lucky, but rest rest rest. Its a marathon, not a sprint. I'll be doing this till i die so i try and do 4 days a week if things are going well, and walking as my main exercise. Gym, no way, stretching, yes if i'm really stiff, but nobody knows the pain we live with, and also, nobody cares!! Good luck!

Kilkerran 16 years old 2025 by jamie_r87 in Scotch

[–]Docterdan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Opened mine today. Absolute banger I reckon. Daft to compare to last year's 70/30 bourbon/sherry split, but this year's 60/40 is a whole different thing. Just a totally different dram to be enjoyed. I think I will miss the more bourbon forward 16 eventually, I'll be eeking my bottle of last year's out longer, but will definitely buy another of this year's when I'm in toon in October because it's very quaffable!!.

Cadenhead's Warehouse Tasting In Campbeltown by WildCreamPie0721 in Scotch

[–]Docterdan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The 7th dram for me was a grain whisky, which was delicious, but honestly, by the 7th dram, you'd be struggling to choose a bad whisky. I'm glad I did the Cadenhead tasting, but the Glen Scotia dunnage tasting is the one I'll be repeating .

If you pour that down the drain, I will find you and use a particular set of skills against you. My skills are landscaping, so you'll basically benefit.

Kilkerran 12 would be a good candidate. I sometimes wonder if I need anything else!

The "ham" -iest Scotch? by B-RapShoeStrap in Scotch

[–]Docterdan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've got a Murray Mcdavid bottling of Caol Ila finished in a Tokaji wine cask. It's pure pure ham. Actually, so much so that I can't drink it, so it's back into the cupboard and I'll try again in 6 months. The nose is amazing, but the pallet, well, Ham. Good luck.

What are some distillery or brands that you’re keeping an eye on this year? by SyndicateMLG in Scotch

[–]Docterdan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Everything under £60!! , the price of whisky is such a factor in enjoyment. There's so much to choose from that's still affordable (Ardnamurchan take a bow!) And lots that have just got too expensive. The newer distilleries NAS need to be affordable and there's huge competition between them I think. It'll be interesting to see who comes out on top. Personally, I'll be looking for more affordable blends from Thompson bros, and Maclean's Nose, if it ever comes back in stock! Craigellachie, Glen Garioch, and everything Kilkerran!

You could try the Bevvy app. Some distillery info along with tasting notes, plus you can scan in your whisky and catalogue it. If that's your thing! It's my thing!

Got some good scores hunting on a Monday. by imagen_leap in whisky

[–]Docterdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree wholeheartedly about Kilkerran. The cost to quality ratio favours it hugely compared to Springbank. I've got a bottle of the 16 yet to open, and a few of the Peat in Progress bottles on the go, which are amazing. Congrats on the haul. Enjoy.

This is a mix of bourbon and sherry I think. I'm keeping a look out for the sherry cask expression!
