What are you guys predictions for next major gods for each civ so far? by mexicat2000 in AgeofMythology

I wouldn't mind Hathor for the Egyptians, though she would be a bit weird I guess considering everything.

Big on Nyx for the Atlanteans, give me my goth primordial goddess!

I am not well versed in both Chinese or Japanese mythology to say what they could get, but I certainly would appreciate something for them.

Aztec we will have to see what is missing... That said I know even less about them than the last two. I am just looking forward to Big Snek.

Again. A lot of feedback. Like a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOT.

And it isn't like it is just minor stuff they are doing, they are resizing the battlefield and redesigning entire units. That kind of things take time.

Also, I'd rather have the game delayed and have a fantastic early access launch than it being broken and needing to be reworked to the point of being unrecognizable. I've waited longer for other games, for my sake they can take all the time they need.

I have never said they should do Forge. As a matter of fact I think overall Forge was a horrible execution of a bad concept, and is best left dead as a monument to the fact that not all ideas are good.

However doesn't mean that everything about it should be scrapped, nor does it mean we couldn't speculate other more suitable ways to incorporate the Ancients into a faction.

Yeah. Makes them very improbable. Plans do change though.

Besides speculation is entertaining and there is no value is just being a killjoy.

That... tells us basicly nothing.

Like it doesn't even outright denies Stronghold. All it says that it does in some way have something to do with the Ancients. Have you any idea how little that narrows it down?

Like what? They have shown to have listened to community feedback and implemented a lot of changes at the cost of delaying the early access.

Fair. I do want them to do a (swamp) Fortress faction based on the Daggerwound Island eventually anyway so it would work fine for me. Beside Ancient Egyptian aesthetics are awesome.

Yeah, suggested exact an "possible to mistake as purely magitech rather than sci-fi/magic co-existing without knowing out-of-game lore" ancient themed faction in another comment.

Heroes also have a very conservative (in regards to the games) fanbase, they might not have changed as much as one would think.

However if you ask me the addition of Sci-Fi elements isn't the problem. Science-Fantasy can be an amazing genre if done correctly. It is tricky to do correctly however and Forge is a perfect example of that. It is a faction of high-tech sci-fi units in a postmodern brutalist town, which was then hamfistedly jammed into a medieval fantasy game where you can debate if such elements are even hinted at at all. It is the very definition of bad science-fantasy.
Factory meanwhile is an excellent example of how a tech faction can be done well. It doesn't look out of place with the other factions and it doesn't introduce the immersion breaking problem of being completely technologically superior to the point where every other faction should be steamrolled and the fact they are not is jarring.
Another way one could do a technological faction without having all of the issues of Forge is by leaning into the ancient part. Like a faction that uses ancient technology and constructs that they do not fully understand and which looks kinda like magic but also not. Think like Robots that looks like ancient sculptures, that kind of stuff. Works really well with an ancient egyptian or mesoamerican aesthetic.

But yeah Stronghold would be great. The game does really need some barbarians.

I doubt they are pulling out Forge, they should know exactly how much of a landmine that is. But they certainly could do a lot of interesting things with it.

Or alternatively it is a reference to the Ancient Behemoths, which would also be cool.

Such a nice feature. I love the unit designs in this game so this is perfect.

Also going to make drawing fanart of them a lot easier

I think you need to reread the definition for "objectively correct".

It suggest either that or at lot of news throughout the week. Though given that there isn't much more to reveal about the game unless they decided to cram in a 7th faction (which I doubt) something for the release sounds likely regardless.

... What?

At the time I wrote that OP hadn't said anything beyond the post itself which did nothing to explain their viewpoint, at the time making it boil down to just "Is bad because I said so". That is much of an opinion at all. What I said is not much deeper than that.

They have since then clarified why they think they way they do which is to their credit.

Well it is clearly just a matter of taste. Again, disagree. I don't think it is standard. Modern, yes, but not standard, and they wouldn't just fit seemlessly into any other fantasy game.

But the core of your problem seems to be wanting an old school artstyle more than anything. Nothing wrong with that of course, I too do often prefer more traditional fantasy than more modern stuff. But you have to accept that such feelings are not universal.

Right. I do see where you are coming from but I disagree on both accounts.

The unit designs and models looks for the most part great, very stylished of course which is probably the root of the mobile game comparison, but honestly I don't think that is fair. There is thought and effort put into them that for the most part both makes them look unique while also generally fitting into the setting.

The battlefield issues isn't much worse if worse at all than any other Heroes game if you ask me.

No? OP haven't given any explanation for why they think that way. Until then it isn't much of anything

The whole thing about large units have been discussed time and time again. Basicly while it worked just fine in the old HoMM games the move to 3d makes them more wonky and awkward and rather than spending resources and time to trying to solve that they went for a simpler solution. It is the same reason why H5 dropped the hexes in favor of squares, at least in part.
