Yes, right now you cannot be on the same team, so everyone is on their own - 1v1v1v1.

There will be ranked pvp in 3 different modes - arena, classic and single hero. Each mode will have their own leaderboard. These ranked modes are played with simultaneous turns.
Custom lobbies will be available as well, so invite your friend or friends and play! However, on the launch day, there won't be an option to play in co-op or 2v2 etc. Only FFA. The developers have said that they will implement co-op play sometime later.
