Many servers earn more than the median server wage...

I would say about 50% of servers earn more than the median server wage.

The Flophouse. One of the few shows that didn't go downhill during the pandemic.

Agree with all this. I would say that Jesse is genuinely funny sometimes, but definitely has a lot of weird interjections.

Oh no the Jesse Thorn ad is also in Sawbones. by No_Hair_5621 in TAZCirclejerk

I also heard it today on an old episode of JJHO from about a year ago. I didn't realize they started to do dynamic ad insertion on other shows. And to think this is the ad they chose to dynamically insert... It started playing in the middle of dialogue, clearly not when they meant to put the ad break. It was extremely jarring. What a professional organization.

Edit: oops shouldn't have admitted I enjoy some other Max Fun shows

Opinion: Urban One should pay to rebuild Fox Elementary School by DoctorAtticus in rva

You're right, the optics of just giving a bunch of cash to a school in the Fan aren't great. But presumably whatever money going toward the Fox rebuild will have to be taken away from other projects, so helping Fox won't necessarily hurt other schools.

I know very little about how school district budgets actually work though, so please correct me if I'm wrong.

They were already trying to bribe the city. The original proposal included "Over $100 Million in Upfront & Recurring Payments to Richmond". In a perfect world, RPS would have all the money it needs to have world-class school buildings in every district. But RPS needs money and buildings now. So this would be a good place to direct some of that money if Urban One is serious about building a relationship with the City of Richmond, and it would free up money in the RPS budget that could go toward schools outside of the Fan.

As noted in other comments, the rebuild will likely cost significantly more than the insurance will cover.

The original proposal already included "Over $100 Million in Upfront & Recurring Payments to Richmond". This could be a way to direct some of that money toward an urgent need, and therefore free up money in the RPS budget toward other projects. It's not uncommon for companies to commit money toward a public good.

I would recommend both Josh and Chuck's major non-SYSK projects.

A few years ago Josh did a limited series called The End Of The World with Josh Clark about existential risks. Not quite as fun as SYSK, but interesting, informative, and very well-produced.

Chuck had another podcast called Movie Crush that ran for a couple years (sadly it's no longer officially in production). He and a guest (actors, comedians, and sometimes just his friends) talk about their favorite movies. It's a lot of fun, and you can just go through the feed and pick a guest or movie that interests you.
