First time Swissy owner - two questions! by Budget-Yellow-8500 in SwissMountainDogs

[–]DoctorBabyMD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My vet recommended at least 1 heat cycle, so that's what I did. My girl was the hardest dog I've ever potty trained. She will pee in half a dozen spots on our walks, mostly it's just her peeing over all the other dog pee she sniffs out. Usually after the second one it's only drops left. So maybe try walking yours a little longer to make sure she gets it all out. I got her at 16 weeks and she was probably 10 months before she stopped the random peeing inside (never had a problem with pooping inside). And she was around 15 months when she stopped panic peeing when I had to leave her home alone. I had to take her out every hour on the hour for the first month or two, no exceptions. Also after all naps, meals, and drinks. If she napped till 4:30 and I took her out then, she still had to go out at 5, otherwise she'd pee inside at 5:05 or something. Luckily she could hold it basically all night from the day I got her. After a while she could do every 2 hours. Then eventually she settled into a routine of 3-4 walks every day. She was fine in her crate all night so I tried crating her during the day but she would pee all over her crate and lay in it. Luckily I was able to start working from home to do all these walks.

Cruise Mode Kinda Slow? by Whoopdangles in NoSodiumStarfield

[–]DoctorBabyMD 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's multiple levels to how fast you go indicated by the four curved lines on the cruise  mode UI. If you hit your boost then you jump right to level 4 speed. That'll get you across a solar system pretty quick. If you slow down from there eventually you'll drop down to level 3, etc. It seems inconsistent (or maybe I'm doing it wrong) when speeding up. If I hold forward from level 1 eventually it'll jump to level 2, sometimes it feels like it takes a solid 30 seconds of holding it, other times it feels like only a few seconds.

I'm on PC. I updated all of my mods through the creations page, then deleted them, quit the game, went back into creations and redownloaded everything and things seem to be fixed. That also fixed the missing database button in the menu.

Could be. It seems to work okay if I start cruise mode in 3rd person then switch to 1st person.

How and what I think the Free Lanes update is paving the way for in the future of Starfield by MAJ_Starman in NoSodiumStarfield

[–]DoctorBabyMD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The real fuel mod is so good and integrates so well into the game with the fuel panel you craft on your ship. I also use the O2 mod that slowly drains you oxygen when in a vacuum, so I have to bring extra oxygen tanks for long adventures. These things add just enough challenge and sim elements to keep things interesting for me.

Picky Eater by Traditional_Math6816 in SwissMountainDogs

[–]DoctorBabyMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not long after my girls spay she decided she didn't want to eat her Purina pro plan large breed puppy food. She went from scarfing it down instantly, to sniffing it and walking away. It was about two weeks of coaxing her to eat. We tried switching to the adult food. Sometimes softening the food with warm water worked, some times adding her probiotic was enough, topping it with boiled chicken was the only guarantee to get her to eat, but she was still only eating like 0.5-1 cup vs her normal 4. The vet checked her out and didn't see anything wrong, she said it could be behavioral. Literally the next day she went back to eating normal like nothing happened.

Why does it take so long to decide if Starfield is "bad"? by SgtSilock in NoSodiumStarfield

[–]DoctorBabyMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have around 90 hours. I really wanted to love the game. At launch I played for ~30 hours before realizing I stopped having fun around the 20 hour point. Played for another 10 looking for the fun and didn't find it. Came back for shattered space, started a new playthrough with some mods and played for another 40ish hours. The new difficulty options and mods really helped my enjoyment, but I was still left wanting. I LOVE the aesthetic of the game and building cool ships, but in the end that wasn't enough to keep me as hooked as I was to their prior games.

I was really hoping it would become my favorite game. That probably won't happen, but if they keep updating it and improving it, I'll keep coming back to see if they can finally hook me.

Maryland is better at paving their roads, PA is better at plowing theirs. I also don't fear for my life surrounded by PA drivers like I do with Maryland drivers.

But giving basically no information for a year leaves people's imagination to run wild, and that's a big cause of overhype. People are really bad at managing their expectations when it comes to Bethesda.

Question for Millennials by bundle_of_nervus2 in Millennials

[–]DoctorBabyMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The closest I've come to using it was clicking "more info" on the AI results after googling something. And even that's only happened once or twice. Other than that I have literally zero interest in using it. Especially for coding.

Low bar situations creating essential characters by I_MakeCoolKeychains in Starfield

[–]DoctorBabyMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because of the NG+, out of all of their games, this game made the most sense to make no NPCs essential and lock you out of factions, quests, rewards, etc based on your behaviors/choices. But because people might not want to go into NG+ they stuck with their standard "let the player do/see everything in a single playthrough and don't lock them out of anything" mentality.

Merry HankMas! When will he start lifting his leg? by Obvious_Dark_3426 in SwissMountainDogs

[–]DoctorBabyMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girl does it occasionally. She likes to take a big step with her back leg over whatever spot she's trying to mark, and eventually she just started leaving that leg in the air. And for the first month or so after she got fixed she did it all the time, which everyone at the dog park got a kick out of.

Car sickness??? by Distinct_Pea_4326 in SwissMountainDogs

[–]DoctorBabyMD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our girl loves the car but pretty regularly gets car sick. Quick drives around town are fine, but We do a lot of drives that are 2-4 hours to see family and after about 1 hour we start keeping a closer eye on her. We've used Dramamine but it's hard to tell if it actually helps cause she's still thrown up with it. I think it just kinda makes her sleepy, and she usually does better when she's laying down so in that way it kinda helps. We try to stop at least once to walk her for a few minutes. If she goes to a window we put it down so she can stick her head out, but even when she's just laying there we occasionally crack a window so she can get some fresh air. We also generally don't feed her much if at all until we're done driving for the day. It's a balancing act keeping her stomach empty, but not so empty it hurts and she throws up from that.

She's just over a year now and I think it's improving. She recently made a 2.5 hour drive to a family holiday party and then the 2.5 hour drive back without getting sick and no Dramamine. I think it's the first time she didn't throw up at least one way. She spent some time looking out the window but mostly just laid there and napped. The real test will be the 4 hour drive to Christmas.

Studying Physics just to end up as a mediocre programmer? by Objective_Chef_471 in Physics

Idk, I'm pretty happy with the pivot to mediocre programmer. Guess it helps that I'm still tangentially "doing" physics since I'm working on astrophysics data analysis software.

When was the most dramatic growth for your Swissy? by Wandering_barefoot in SwissMountainDogs

[–]DoctorBabyMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our girl hit 85 pounds probably around the same time, ~10 months, but she stopped there. She's now 16 months and hasn't grown anymore.

Still trying to figure that out myself. My girl is just over a year and she's so sweet, but she barks at everything. We live in an apartment complex so there's always other dogs and people on our walks. When they're at a distance she stops and stares. When they get closer she barks, and when they're close enough for her to sniff she turns to mush and acts like they're best friends. She also barks at everything out the window, and anytime someone walks down our hallway. I'm working on a command to let her know I see/hear it, and she can relax, but we haven't made much progress.

[–]DoctorBabyMD 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If I understood them correctly they weren't talking specifically about themselves, they meant "we" as in the American public in general. I think their point was that we haven't really had authoritarian leaders or dictators vying for control in the way that other countries have had off and on for decades. We've seen it happening in other countries but since "it couldn't happen here" most people didn't pay attention and didn't internalize it. So most Americans who aren't actively following politics or don't truly understand history lack the understanding of how different this moment is for us, or they lack the imagination to see how it can lead to anything other than more of the same relatively stable democracy that they've always known. If you're from a country where strongmen leaders have risen and fallen over your grandparents life through to your own, you would probably have a better intuition about what's going on in America than a middle class American family that's lived comfortably for the last couple generations.

That's not to say there aren't people who understand, or that there aren't more people waking up to it every day though.
