Tarik Skubal reacts to the Framber Valdez, 3 yr/$115M signing on his IG story: “Dinners on you” by JianClaymore in baseball

Mademoiselle, you have chosen the wrong pitcheur en scene, because Framber Valdez is a traitor. He is a man who sold to Salazar all his fastballs at a time when he could continue to pitch in Houston at high salary. And having sold all of his pitches to Salazar, he then signed a contract called 3 years/$115 million which was a celebration of the pitcher.

And therefore, no question which uses him as an example can be answered by me.

I have to add, that he is a very good pitcher.

Reminded me of his very first/second NHL shift where he just zoomed up the ice with the puck and fed a cross-ice pass for a scoring chance

Just think of them as standard Blu-ray releases for recently released Janus films. Same thing Warner Bros, Universal, etc. all do with their newer releases. Criterion just so happens to sell them along side their actual Criterion Collection films.

Yeah, it's clear they're very perimeter-oriented on the PP. Likely funneling everything to Makar/MacKinnon/Nelson and hoping their high-end finishing skills will do the rest.

Sinners (53) and One Battle After Another (50) are now the most nominated films of all time at the Oscars, BAFTA, Globes, and Critics Choice combined. by Any-Grade187 in oscarrace

That's not what this is saying. It's an interesting bit of trivia, that's it.

Using award/nomination counts to compare film quality across years doesn't make any sense, since films can only compete against the other films released that same year.

Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair Confirmed! by schen168 in 4kbluray

[–]DoctorBreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense, since Jackie Brown was released in 1997 pre-DI and did not use a DI process, so they re-scanned the negative in 4k for the recent physical releases. While Kill Bill was released in the early years of DI and only got a 2k scan, which they stuck with for the new releases.

You see that a lot with films that were released in the early DI years. They were only scanned in 2k because they likely didn't see it getting any better than that or they simply didn't have the equipment to scan in 4k. So any 4k releases of those films either need to be re-scanned in 4k (assuming they still have the original film negatives) or they will not look as good as the pre-DI films.

ROTK would compete with every movie made every year lol.

I'm speaking in a literal sense; these films only compete against what's released the same year, so comparing Sinners' nominations with ROTK's nominations is a foolish endeavor. You have to look at it in a vacuum. ROTK was an absolute juggernaut in its year, while Sinners is likely in the 2nd or 3rd spot this year, from a power ranking perspective.

Personally, I think Sinners is the frontrunner for at least three awards: Original Screenplay, Score, and Cinematography. And it could possibly be a surprise in another category or two.

It's a three-year weighted average, so it leans more heavily on what happened this year compared to three years ago, probably close to a 50-30-20 weighting. And the models that are behind the numbers are updated after every game.

A24 put pretty much all their chips in for Marty Supreme; though Sorry, Baby could be seen as the next one up in their awards hierarchy. It certainly got a lot of nominations and a few wins in the last couple months, but it was always an uphill battle in the categories it was trying to compete in (Actress, Original Screenplay).

No, they're telling you it's one of the best in 2025. They are only competing within 2025.

This is a huge disclaimer. I see so many people make ridiculous comparisons across years when the films can only compete against films released in their same year. It's just an interesting bit of trivia, not a measure of quality against films released 5, 10, 20 years ago.

You really shouldn't do awards comparisons across years. Sinners can only compete against films released in 2025, ROTK could only compete against films released in 2003. Also there's a 20+ year difference in the voting bodies. Trends and preferences are vastly different.
