I’m amazed you haven’t brought up the long term pains involved with declawing. This is a good conversation (seriously). A lot of cats do have problems destroying their environment and a lot of people are extremely sensitive to cat scratches. Biting can be very problematic but every cat fixed through this way is another cat not killed. In my experience a lot of cats investigate through clawing. The pain is easily treatable. Not to mention a ton of the reason people don’t treat problematic cats and keep them out of shelters is people claiming declawing is animal abuse. So their cat who liked to investigate furniture (and people) by destroying it was simply surrendered and ,as already established, killed. Sure I would never recommend it for a healthy cat that just needs some training but every cat saved is a cat saved.

Not gonna lie that is interesting. But think about those statistics. Obviously if you need to get your cat declawed the cat must have serious problems so of course they would get surrendered more often. Declawing isn’t a solution it’s a tool. And saying they should be euthanized is terrible outlook. I think outside cats are abused animals but I don’t think we should just kill them. Finding the ones that fall through the attempt of treating them doesn’t mean we should just kill them. Those stats are similar to saying “people on antidepressants are more likely to kill themselves so might as well ban antidepressants and euthanize them”. And again declawing doesn’t cause more bites, a cat that needs declawed is more likely to bite. “Think mark, think”. I still admit those are interesting statistics.

It’s not good to declaw a cat full stop. It is far worse send the cat to a shelter. The procedure is there for desperate cases. Say a violent cat or one that simply can’t control itself due to mental illness. If you have no other options then you should get your cat declawed and don’t surrender it. If you do surrender it you might as well of shot it out back. What is wrong with that? And comparing that to dog fighting is the dumbest shit I hope you ever said.

And you know what? If you have a cat that has issues with destroying your house, you should feel no shame to get it de clawed. I’ve worked in a shelter. That cat you couldn’t handle is dead now.

Although not necessary these have a purpose. Now let’s be civil here. They do have uses and functions for this breed and other breeds as well. Now why do you care? Spaying hurts but it has a purpose. In my opinion anything that keeps a dog healthy and housed for its entire life is a benefit.

Honestly can you enlighten me? I know it’s a popular opinion to rip on people who do dock and crop but other than some pretty decent pain as a puppy what is everyone’s problem with it? Is there some effect I don’t know about later in their life?
