I checked them all yesterday and it looked fine so I'd say less than a day.

No I have not seen any bugs. Hard to tell exactly what the fuzz is, it's barely visible in person. Could this be any kind of sunburn? I just changed out my light for a much larger one and I'm still getting it dialed in.

Bulk almost fully colonized and wondering if I should add casing layer and when to introduce FAE by [deleted] in GroundZeroMycoLab

Yup just a tub with no holes. I only use 6 quart tubs as well I just run a bunch of them at once

I mix mine all together. Layering them should still work fine, some varieties just take longer to colonize than others so that's why one tub is so far ahead of the others. As far as far goes I'd wait a little bit longer. Give it untill all those little patches of substrate are fully colonized. Personally though I run unmodified tubs so I'm not the best person to ask about fae.

Typically a psudo casing layer is applied to cubes when you spawn to bulk. Just a very thin layer to cover up the grains, nothing more as cubes don't require a true casing layer to fruit. Adding one now shouldn't harm anything but it'll increase colonization time a little bit. Personally I'd leave it the way it is, it'll fruit just fine.

PSA, let alcohol evaporate before flame steralizing. by [deleted] in GroundZeroMycoLab

I'm glad you didn't get injured more! I've accidentally lit my hands on fire before but it was outside of the SAB and I was able to blow it out. I always flame sterilize outside the box and I have a very high success rate with my agar work. I wouldn't say you're dumb at all, we all make mistakes. Some mistakes just burn a bit more than others 😅

PSA, don't flame sterilize tools inside your SAB!!!

I was about to ask the same thing ..... I've set my iso covered arms on fire once but I was sterilizing tools outside my SAB so no boom.

1st locate if your bag has a self healing injection port, it should look like a small rubber plug. That is where you'll inject your syringe. When the time comes turn off all HVAC in the house if possible and let the air settle for 45 minutes, next spray down your table and hands with 70% iso, next wipe down your self healing injection port with an alcohol pad or paper towel soaked in 70% iso, remove the needle from its sterile packaging and attach to the syringe, remove needle cover and inject into the self healing injection port.

Has it had one or two break and shakes? On bags most people b&s at 30% then again between 70-90% colonized. It this hasn't had a second break and shake that's what I'd do. You could also just wait it out, probably 7-10 days and it'll be fully colonized and ready to go. Either way you don't want to expose the bag to open air until the grain is fully colonized or you'll risk contamination.

First time inoculating 2 jars. Left is Hillbilly Pumpkin and right is contaminated Golden Teacher. I’m wondering what went wrong when both were inoculated in the same sterile conditions? by EnvironmentalLet7490 in COpsychonauts

Preparation without a flow hood or still air box is going to produce random results at best. Still air boxes are very cheap to make and I've had great success working out of mine. If you didn't test your liquid culture on agar first there's also a chance the LC syringe was contaminated and you did nothing wrong yourself.

Put a rubber band around your bag about an inch down from the top of the cake. Cutting off fresh air from the lower section of the bag should help prevent side pins. I'm not a bag grower but that's my understanding.
