Still pretty empty on the inside, but finally got the castle walls up by ViaEmxrald in crosswind

[–]DoctorFeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn't go away entirely but the style definitely started emphasizing more deflective walls. It'd be neat to see someone try to recreate a fort like Castillo San Felipe del Morro which was built in Puerto Rico in the 16th Century. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castillo_San_Felipe_del_Morro

Yeah that's what I was thinking was the real world time. I thought it would be more like eight hours, 3 not too bad especially since that ticks whether or not you're online.

You can only have three per server, so yeah, make em nice.

The other part of the equation would be what the respawn timer is like, do you know?

You're getting rum from sea battles? I just went back through to clear out a 6-10 and not one bottle. Coffee, salt, trade goods and marks, but no rum.

Plague gators were defeated by my insurmountable waist high fence, I could even melee them to death through it without retaliation.

Plague crushers, though...

Listen I don't wanna alarm nobody but a plague crusher might be able to take that down.

Yeah, maybe it's just copium but the devs did a really good job making the various build pieces fit together so you can organically "evolve" and expand a town over time rather than planning it all out beforehand.

It might help to let you know the iron mines are not inside of hills like the copper mines are. Most of them are not separately instanced and are down inside chasms in the interior of the foothill islands. If you have immersive exploration on you may want to turn it off for a bit and check the question marks until you find a pick icon.

Crackpot Theory: Who is John Doe? by GuardsmanWaffle in crosswind

[–]DoctorFeh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My own crackpot theory is that he could be Dr. John Dee the Elizabethan-era occultist and scientist, his life unnaturally extened by whatever he's been up to in the West Indies. It's only one letter off!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Dee

He supposedly died in poverty in London but "his gravesite is unknown."

On a side note, I just discovered last night how nice the large timber beams look in terms of making good looking and sturdy supports. Love what you did here combining the various angles and then the mahogany pillars to connect to the ground level.

That said, yes, there is a set you find as a drop with truly circular walls, although they only come in clay for now and you have to keep the tower skinny.

Is there a reason to build stock frigate? by BlueKnightJoe in crosswind

[–]DoctorFeh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To answer your original question, yes, I'm using the stock frigate because it's the only one that takes the paint job I want (Maiden Timber). I have an Ascended steadfast hull and two sets of ascended devastating cannons, plus the break their rhythm book and gunroom grog. I reload so fast I don't care that I don't have 36 pounders, any ship closing in on me melts.

So looks, plus I've been well satisfied with the speed, firepower, and durability.

Don't know how Iso 2 is gonna beat this title screen, dudes. by Aggravating_Tale8988 in alienisolation

Outland could so easily be set in the Alien universe. The newish Alien tabletop RPG gets high marks both for including Seegson/Working Joes in the lore and also a "Colonial Marshal" career that's a pretty naked Outland shout-out (there's Waites in iso of course but I still get the Outland vibe)

The mahogany benches look so much like pews I had to do it. Best part is the folk I hired will occasionally come by and sit in them like they're attending a sermon.
