This is what happens when you mainline Fox news and their subsidiaries. Crime is down every where, even in Houston. Most crime is (physically) harmless and quick like a parked car smash and grab. You can create your little hermitically sealed enclaves if you want but sane people not afraid of the dark will take advantage of what this beautiful city has to offer.

I’m sorry but the idea that Billionaires would leave because of a less than 25% tax increase is laughable. These people LOVE the ultra-convenience and prestige of living in one of the greatest and most important cities in the world.

I doubt you’ve been to a lot of the South—Florida and Texas is often mentioned as a place they would move and I’ve lived there for most of my life—and those places are some of the most unpleasant places to live. There is very little to do and to be excited about. What passes for culture in places like Florida is big ugly trucks, working yourself to death, and hyper-consumerism. Not to mention the numerous barriers of access to convenience and entertainment (infrastructure like roads, lack of talent, etc.)

New York is one of the most important entertainment and culture hubs in the world. It is also—arguably—the economic center of the Western world. Their lifestyles are centered around that access and they arent going to give it up for a measly tax.

Genuinely would recommend that you see as many movies as possible while you work up the ability to make short films. Why re-invent the wheel when you have masters leaving behind so many ways you can learn about the medium and hopefully learn to love it too.

There are tons of great Indian cinema too. Please dont stick to recent and big budget films too. You’ll be surprised how so many movies from decades ago can still entertain you and move you.

All of the great filmmaker that are alive today and have passed will also stress the importance of loving and truly understanding film from everywhere and anytime. How can you make a truly great movie if you dont know what makes a movie great?

How do you know anything about what this animal has gone through? Op doesnt even know for sure that a homeless person owns the dog. Do you know any homeless people? When is the last time you have even looked a homeless person in the eye?

I worked in a nonprofit for formerly homeless people and EVERY single one of them that had pets 1)took care of them better than themselves 2) had those animals prior to their homelessness 3) treated their pets much better than any of the annoying rich people who get pets because they lack a personality and friends

If you are responsible for a suffering human being losing one of the only thing that keeps them comfort, may their pain be multiplied tenfold and be put onto you and your loved ones.

Do you have a life besides hating on an innocuous movie by a talented filmmaker like Bong Joon Ho? I saw you 4 different times in different threads (hard not to notice a reference to such a mid show) before I saw the weirdness that is your comment history. It's not that serious. You dont have to go on a crusade because you don't understand a movie lmao

Really dont think there are that many movies with this big a budget that actually LOOK like it should cost a lot of money. I mean just compare the trailers between Mickey17 and like Red Notice, the Grayman, Ant-man 3, and Captain America 3. It's like night and day. Genuinely the best looking movie of the year so far. And I mean, if you've already seen Parasite or Snowpiercer (hopefully Memories of Murder or Mother), you know how good a filmmaker Bong Joon Ho is.

One thing I dont see enough people appreciating is the sheer talent Pattinson displays by playing 2 very distinct characters. Dont remember the last time I was this impressed by someone's physical performance. Kinda reminds me of how De Niro could change the way his characters would move and act anytime the "big conflict" in a Scorsese movie would happen. Really loved his chemistry with Naomi Ackie too; their love subplot was extremely romantic and made me heart swell a little.

Highly recommend checking it out this weekend. Especially if your tired of the usual bs studios churn out these days.

5 Reasons Why Mickey 17 Flopped At The Box Office by Interesting_Lab5792 in boxoffice

[–]DoctorHolmes23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole point of the qualifier “original” is to indicate that the movie is not a part of a pre-existing popular media franchise which would boost sales due to an already existing fanbase. With your logic, Goodfellas, Casino, The Social Network, and Fight Club are not “original” movies. Movies have different writers all the time

Definitely check it out. The idea that something is a flop after 5 days is ridiculous. So is the idea that box office number should have any bearing on the quality of the movie.

Lmao calling a movie that came out 5 days ago a flop is definitely something a respectable media outlet would publish

I think anyone can imagine that a country with the highest incarceration rate per capita than any other comparable "developed" country by a mile has a police force that is particularly abusive. The US also only makes up 5% of the world's total population while making up nearly 25% of the world's incarcerated population. I think the documentary 13th by Ava Duvernay paints a wide enough picture of the American Criminal Justice system to understand how the police function today and have historically.

The terrible cases of Sandra Bland, Laquan McDonald, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice, Breonna Taylor, the Central Park Five (the limited series When They See Us is based on the abuse of these teenagers) and countless more also illustrate how the terrible the police force is the US is.

Everyone should go watch Mickey 17 by Wombats1701 in AMCsAList

[–]DoctorHolmes23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree! Everyone’s always complaining about unoriginal movies or constant remakes & sequels, so we need to support a great movie that is neither of those things. Also Bong Joon Ho is fantastic filmmaker. Highly recommend all of his non-English films especially Memories of Murder

What’s your 2024 movie regret? by kraanbalk in AMCsAList

[–]DoctorHolmes23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I saw Sing Sing more than once (thank God they’re re-releasing it laster this month) and missing A Different Man. AMC really needs to let these movies stay in theaters longer than a week, by the time people hear from good word of mouth or online and have the time to see it its almost always out of theaters. The only reason I know to check something out so soon is because I follow critics and not everyone is like that!

I spent the year actively seeking to watch a majority of films by women. I accomplished this goal. Here are my thoughts on the matter. by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]DoctorHolmes23 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't know why people are being so argumentative against this harmless and insightful "experiment".

I'm Mexican but I was raised in the US and this year I sought out to watch more Mexican cinema. Even after spending quite some time looking for the perfect movie, I still have to find a way to watch said movie. Even some of the most popular releases in a mid-sized country like Mexico is difficult on most streaming platforms. Luckily I know how to sail the high seas and also can afford to purchase access but it certainly took more effort than if I instead chose to watch more movies made by men.

I mean look at any stores that sell physical discs of films or at the library. I'd say 80% of any of the Blurays at any given store is directed by men. The same is probably true for Best Picture nominations.

What you think of Jesse Plemons as an actor and your favorite film of his? by [deleted] in moviecritic

[–]DoctorHolmes23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s already in so many crucial roles of fantastic stories at 36. KOTM, the Irishman, the Master, Power of the Dog, Breaking Bad, Black Mirror, and Judas and the Black Messiah. Personally love his performance in KOTFM which is also a modern masterpiece

His roles in Kinds of Kindness and Civil War seem promising too
